Domain consulting and brokerage firm Domain Advisors scored a nice exclusive brokerage listing today, Yoga.com, which was announced in a press release. The company didn’t announce the asking price in the release. I would assume it’s a six figure price tag though.
I don’t know how popular yoga is where you live, but here in New York, it seems that there is at least one yoga studio on every street offering a full schedule of daily classes. People also spend a considerable amount of money on yoga clothing, mats, and other related gear. I think the name has a lot going for it.
It appears that Yoga.com is somewhat developed, although the 2005 copyright at the bottom of the site may be indicative of the last time it was updated. It does appear on the first page of Google for “yoga” for me though.
The press release is below
On the heels of World Yoga Day, DomainAdvisors, a leading broker of ultra premium domain names, announced that it has been engaged to privately broker the sale of the extremely valuable online property Yoga.com. Highly marketable and easy to remember, Yoga.com provides an unprecedented branding and investment opportunity to help capitalize on the growth of the in this multi-billion dollar yoga sector of the health and fitness industry.
The latest “Yoga in America” study, just released by Yoga Journal (yogajournal.com), revealed that Americans spend $5.7 billion a year on yoga classes and products, including equipment, clothing, vacations, and media. This figure represents an increase of 87 percent compared to the previous study in 2004. It’s no surprise Inc. Magazine recently hailed Yoga as one of the best industries to launch a new business. Owning the Yoga.com web address offers the opportunity to dominate this explosive industry.
“Yoga is a word that is universally understood, making Yoga.com one of the world’s most brandable and valuable domain names,” noted Jeffrey M. Gabriel, President of Domain Advisors. “Yoga.com provides an opportunity to own and control a central online gateway to the world of yoga and everything it embodies. It’s very rare when a domain name of this caliber, offering such a significant marketing and revenue opportunity, becomes available. DomainAdvisors is honored to be representing the owners of Yoga.com.”

If you are going to write about high-end domains offered for sale, why don’t you call and find out what the price range is instead of speculating about the price based on getting a dream reseller price. I would guess the price tag is well into 7 figures. It’s kind-of your job to call and find out or not bother writing at all.
“It’s kind-of your job ”
@ Jon
My job is to buy and sell domain names. My hobby is writing this blog.
That said, I am sure that if the company wanted to announce the price (or was willing to do so), they would have included it in their press release.
@Jon
Stop being Sour….Elliot is just letting us know. If you say dont bother writing, I would say, dont bother reading. It takes the time for the writer to write, and your response was plain mean, sorry to say but please be nice.
that said, I would say, Yoga.com would is great domain and no wonder its price would be in 7 figs.
@ Jin
Jon is entitled to his opinion. I probably was a bit salty in my reply to him though. Anyway, I can only assume the price is available for interested parties.
Elliott,
Brain.com is also up for sale by Domain Holdings. Regarding Yoga.com, the owner has informed me that they have rejected offers in the $2-4M range. They want to receive offers in the $5-7M range. This response was was 9 months ago, so things may have changed.

@ A
IMO, Brain.com is far less commercially viable than Yoga.com, which is why I posted this one and not that one. I am surprised at the rejected offers though. I reached out to the company to check on the price but haven’t heard back yet.
How would a yoga studio pay 7 figures? The studios even with the teacher training aren’t exactly going to have all that money to churn out.. prob more like 6 figs 😛
@ J
I agree and think it’s a 6 figure name personally. However, I don’t see a yoga studio buying it. I see a publisher or a big company in that field buying it and turning it into the yoga site online. They could have a paid directory and sell products…etc. Probably too rich for my blood.
I would be surprised if it went for less than 7 figures.
Yoga maybe a good purchase for a clothing company such a lulu lemon who make high end clothing wear for this exercise.
Although Deepak Chopra did launch Deepak Yoga or something this week, his first yoga studio, of many to come, but he is better to brand under his name.
So that leaves one thing, much like what the company did with grandparents.com, just start a new company, and talk about everything yoga… Market, sell, license anything yoga you can find. Asking price will have to be 7 figures, just based purely on hype.
Yoga.com was marketed for sale last year in the same way but guess nobody saw or cared then? http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/8/prweb8742653.htm
What are some of the successful sales transations brokered by Domain Advisors ? …. just curious…. havn’t seen much such data
Heard back from Domain Advisors:
1. Yoga is one of the fastest growing segments in the lifestyle industries representing over 5 Billion Dollars in annual sales and over 80% growth in a down economy.
2. Is the universal word representing this industry in all languages.
3. Short, memorable, and easy to spell.
4. Delivers over 20 Million monthly searches on Google alone.
5. 70% of people who practice Yoga are college educated, and make over 50,000 USD dollars per year on average.
Due to these reasons and many others the Domain is listed at 2,000,000 USD.
@Elliott,
Agreed on the analysis on Brain.com. Yoga.com definitely is something more viable and also good time for visibility as well. We’ll see if they can hit their numbers. I wouldn’t see any reason from them to back away from the 7 figure number.
It’s cheap at $2mm from my perspective.
The annual market size globally would easily be well into the billions of dollars, makes me salivate just thinking about it.
Though the buyer would need to concentrate on making this a real business, just like they did w/ business.com to gain actual value.
It’s a once in a lifetime name for sure.
No wonder then that offers to my yoga names have started trickling in – yogarock.com yogac.com etc.
Great targeted name at any rate.
@Samit,
You can only say it is cheap at $2,000,000 if you have $2,000,000. If not, your perspective is of very limited value.
Looking forward to sale of Yoga.com, as a marker in pitching Yoga2Go.com url for mobile apps

Have 4 domains I’d like to sale quickly and was considering domain advisors. 3 are one word including a .com, .net and .org but I was wondering who was running domain advisors. Seems like I knew at one time but can’t remember.

Thank you. That name doesn’t ring a bell. Was thinking it might have been someone else.
Jeff Gabriel was president, but he left the company recently.
