What Was Your Best Domain Auction Acquisition?

I try to buy domain names at auction every day. I spend a lot of time bidding on auctions. More often than not, I come away with inventory quality domain names I opt to list for sale immediately. The vast majority of my domain auction wins are hardly memorable. I buy them to bulk up my portfolio to move inventory at nice returns.

Last week, Snagged.com posted a question on X that got me thinking for a very quick second:

For me, this question was very easy to answer. I think my best domain auction acquisition is also my favorite acquisition. I bought Embrace.com at NameJet in 2015 for just shy of $19,000.

Shortly after acquiring it, I received a couple of offers from investors above what I paid to acquire it, but it wasn’t appealing to resell it so quickly. Instead, I opted to develop the domain name into the brand I use to sell my own domain names.

I’ve made some very good buys, particularly when judged by the return I’ve gotten from subsequent sales. Even though Embrace.com is a domain name I have not sold – and have no plans to sell – it was still my best auction acquisition. How about yours?

  1. Being a dot com guy, my most fav (originally) from auction was Impactive.com (22k) but then I did not realize I had a gem on hand til I won Buy.Name (3k). Someone pointed out to me that it shows zero bias towards any TLDs if used for a marketplace. Also it’s set to be reserved by the registry if it expires and drops. So yes, going against the grain it’s my fav now. There’s rising sales occurring slowly on alternative TLDs of which I cannot ignore for the future.

  3. Respectfully these are pretty much junk.
Most of us have huge lists of slop that is not too saleable.
I think these posts should be changed to domains any of us bought at auction over 10K on spec.

  4. I offered the sell xxxxxs.com for $50 no takers and dropped it
Went to auction and sold for as high as $4600
    Go f figure!!!!
Why?? Because it attracts more eyeballs in auction platforms.

  5. Why do drop catch namejet etc can get those expired domains while we the public can’t get??
Expired domains should be in the public pool and no one should know when the domains are expired
Expired domain dates should not be published unless the owner wants to
    A fair game
