I received a suspicious looking email yesterday, and I want to share some details. The email subject was “Atom x Embrace.com,” and it came from an email address using a .CO domain name that does not appear to be associated with the Atom.com platform.
Within the email, it had the following messaging:
“I’m Will from Atom. We run a marketplace and naming platform with 400,000+ brandable domains, plus appraisal, brokerage, and naming services.”
It very much appeared as if it were an outreach on behalf of Atom.com to get me to sell domain names on the platform.
I’ve been an Atom customer for a few years and have sold 18 domain names on the platform. There would be no reason for me to need an introduction to the platform. In addition, the non-Atom domain name, which is registered at Dynadot and not Atom’s registrar, that was used for the email seemed peculiar to me. If someone from Atom was actually going to email me, I assume they would use an Atom.com email address like others who email me.
After I received the email, I forwarded it to Zack Gabor, Director of Sales and Partnerships at Atom.com, to ask about its legitimacy. Zack told me it did not come from Atom.com. Needless to say, I did not reply to the email and marked it as spam.
If you receive an email like this, be aware that it does not appear to be from Atom.com or on behalf of the platform.
Did they send any link to click on or any apk file to install. What was their cta for you.

The ask was for a phone call.
Weird.
I thought it could have possibly been a third party on behalf of Atom.com working without a prospect list, but I was told it was not.
