One of my favorite weekends of the year has arrived. On Sunday, I will be riding in my 13th Pan-Mass Challenge to raise money for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. With help from friends and colleagues in the domain investment business, we have raised more than $10,000 for Dana-Farber this year. My fundraising goal is $15,000.
We all know someone who has had cancer or has cancer. It’s a terrible disease that impacts people around the world. I’ve had friends and family overcome their cancer diagnosis, and sadly, I have lost family and friends to cancer. Dana-Farber helps people with cancer around the world, and its research helps give people with cancer better outcomes.
On Monday, I went on my final 25 mile PMC training ride. Each year on my final ride, I go a bit out of the way and make a quick stop at Marilyn St. My Aunt Marilyn died of pancreatic cancer more than 15 years ago. My aunt was a very good cook, and my family would celebrate holidays at her house. Almost without fail, she would make me an angel food cake because it was one of my favorite desserts. My aunt didn’t live on this street, but I always found myself thinking about her when I pass it, and now I make sure to stop on my final training ride.
I ride the Pan-Mass Challenge in my aunt’s memory. I also ride in memory and honor of other friends and family who have had cancer.
All of the funds donated via the Pan-Mass Challenge go to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. They help support Dana-Farber’s important cancer fighting mission.
