According to reports today, Amazon is locating one of its two new “headquarters” to Virginia. The area has been known as Crystal City, but apparently it is rebranding as National Landing.
Quite a few news outlets were tweeting about this today, including NBC News:
Amazon introduces “National Landing” headquarters to confused Washington-area residents. https://t.co/59uqKvw2kr

Interestingly, the NationalLanding.com domain name was registered on August 28, 2018 at MarkMonitor – over two and a half months ago. The domain name is registered to JBG SMITH Properties LP. From what I can see, it looks like this (publicly traded) company is the most prominent commercial real estate firm in the area.
Since the domain name was registered more than a couple of months ago, it would be interesting to know whose idea it was to rebrand the area as National Landing. With the domain registration being public, it is pretty surprising to me that the news of it did not seem to leak out beforehand with some speculation about the National Landing name and the owner of the domain name.
Ha! I was at the gym this morning and tried to hand register it at GoDaddy at 9:00 am!!!!!
Amazon made their decision over a year ago. all the hoopla was just public theater to extract the most concessions from local government.
