Namecheap Founder and CEO Richard Kirkendall posted a tweet this morning proudly announcing this his company is now the second largest domain registrar in the world by number of domain names under management attributed to its ICANN accreditation, as recorded by RegistrarOwl.com:

According to RegistrarOwl.com, there are 62,889,526 domain names registered at GoDaddy and 10,116,123 domain names registered at Namecheap. Tucows is the third largest registrar accreditation with 10,088,833 domain names. Rounding out the top five are Network Solutions and HiChina.
Richard made it clear that he has his sights set on GoDaddy, which is the largest domain registrar in the world. The publicly traded company, (ticker symbol GDDY on NYSE) which surpassed expectations when it reported its Second Quarter earnings after the bell yesterday, has a market cap of $12.5 billion.
Namecheap has a long way to go to catch up to GoDaddy, but the company has come a long way.
Tucows owns enom, asico and few others. Enom has got 5 million+ domains.
