A little over a month ago, I noticed the Fizz.com domain name appeared to have changed hands. Fizz.com, which had been owned by Digimedia, transferred from Tucows to Amazon’s domain registrar with Whois privacy enabled. I noticed this with the help of the Nameserver Monitor tool at DomainTools:
https://t.co/DPiqZD3Lzm, which has been owned by @digimedia, appears to have changed hands.
The domain name transferred from Tucows to Amazon Registrar, where it is now registered under Whois privacy.
Whois changed spotted via @DomainTools Nameserver Monitor.

This morning, TechCrunch covered the launch of a new app called Fizz, which was launched by Instacart. A visit to Fizz.com reveals that Instacart was the buyer of Fizz.com, and the domain name is being used as a means of encouraging people to get the mobile app via QR code.
I am not sure how much Instacart paid to acquire Fizz.com, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the price hit the seven figure mark. Digimedia owns some of the most valuable domain name assets, and the company knows their worth and has the fortitude to get top dollar for its assets. Unfortunately, the company also has a policy of not sharing its domain name sale prices, so we will likely only learn the price if Instacart reveals it. Perhaps that will come in a future SEC filing.
Any guesses on use? To me, InstaCart sounds more like a 1-click eCommerce store I would install on a WordPress blog than it says “Have a stranger go to the grocery store and buy you some Raisin Bran only to deliver a box of Fruity Pebbles as a substitution instead.” Though Fizz sounds more like a cheeky soda bottling company. With that in mind, I don’t see Instacart rebranding as Fizz, so could this be some new endeavor for them?
Yes – read the TechCrunch article that broke the news about Fizz. I linked to it in the article.
