Domain Investing Tools I Use Daily

I use a handful of domain investing tools on a daily basis. The primary purpose is evaluating domain names I want to buy in auction, but I also use some of these tools to price my own domain names and submit educated offers on domain names I want to buy. I also use some of these tools to do background research for domain name related articles on my blog.

About half of the tools I use every day are available for anyone to use for free. Some offer paid account options as well, but have free versions that come with limits on searches and functionality. Other tools are paid and have different fee structures, primarily based on usage and the tools that are used on the platform. One tool I use is paid, but I have been given a journalist account that allows me to use it for research at no cost.

Here is a list of the domain tools I use just about every day:

ExpiredDomains.net (free) – I use this to see what domain names are in auction at GoDaddy, Namecheap, NameJet, and pending delete domain names. I also use ED to see if any new domain names were added for sale at different marketplaces.

NameBio (paid) – I use NameBio to see what domain names recently sold and for how much. I also use NameBio to get an idea of comparable domain name sales. In addition, I sometimes use NameBio to share comparable sales with prospective buyers who want to buy one of my domain names.

Dropping.pro (paid) – I receive several emails in the morning from Dropping.pro that list domain names coming up for sale in auction along with the Estibot valuation and DomainLeads metrics. I have different filters set, so the emails contain domain names that match the attributes in each filter.

DomainLeads.com (free) – I use this to see how many domain names in a TLD are registered and how many are developed. This gives me an idea of how much a term is used in different domain names and businesses.

DomainIQ (paid) – I primarily use DomainIQ to research Whois history for domain names I either want to buy or am researching for an article. I also use DomainIQ to try and identify one word and 3 letter .com domain names that recently changed hands.

DomainTools (paid, but given a journalist account) – I use DomainTools primarily to research Whois history. I also use their Registrant Monitor and Nameserver Monitor tools to track valuable domain names that may have changed hands and track portfolios with valuable domain names that may have changed hands.

DotWeekly (free) – I receive daily emails listing domain names that are in auction or coming up for auction, which includes various metrics.

Google News (free) – I use Google News to track different companies and people that are involved in the domain name space whose news or insights may impact domain investors.

LinkedIn (paid) – I use LinkedIn to try and identify decision makers at companies that either have good domain names I want to buy or work at companies that may want to buy my domain names.

ChatGPT and Claude (paid) – I use both of these AI tools on a daily basis for researching domain names, creating and modifying landing pages, and helping me craft responses to inquiries and offers.
