Sedo Great Domains Auction Results – August 2018

The monthly Great Domains auction on Sedo concluded yesterday, and the auction ended with 40 domain names sold at a value of over $130,000. The three largest sales in the auction were EBF.com ($30,500), Sudden.com ($24,950), and CYN.com ($24,950).

Because the auctions closed just yesterday, the sales have not closed yet. They will be reported to DNJournal and NameBio for recordkeeping once the deals are finalized.

One thing you’ll see is that the auctions were sold in US dollars, GB Pounds, and Euros. It’s a bit confusing, and I wish Sedo would require the auctions to be in one currency. Just my little $.02.

Christian.com Sold for $600,000 via Sedo

Sedo broker Dave Evanson just announced via Twitter that he brokered the sale of Christian.com for $600,000:

Once the sale is archived on DNJournal by Ron Jackson, it will rank as the fifth largest sale of the year (to date). The sale will rank above the $550,000 sale of Inception.com and below the $750,000 sale of Liquid.com.

Results from Sedo’s .CO Auction

At the end of July, Sedo hosted a special .CO domain name auction. The auction concluded on August 2nd, and I received the results of the auction to share with readers.

Vegas.CO was the largest sale at $18,500 followed by Hire.CO at $10,099. The third largest auction was Weather.CO, which sold for $9,999. In total, nearly $80,000 worth of .CO domain names were sold in this auction.

The results of the auction are listed below. Because the auction closed a week ago, it is very likely that many of these sales have not yet closed. Once they close, Sedo will report them to DNJournal and NameBio for archiving.

Sedo to Host Premium .CO Auction

In honor of the .CO registry’s 8th birthday, Sedo will be hosting what is billed as a Premium .CO domain name auction starting on July 26 and running through August 2. I was told the domain names in the auction are owned by Sedo clients. I was also told that Sedo would consider adding super premium .CO domain names if customers are interested in listing them. Some of the .CO domain names names included in the auction are:

Sedo’s GDPR Solution: “Owner Self-Verification”

Sedo just sent out an email to customers in response to the upcoming GDPR changes that are going to make domain name ownership verification more difficult. Many registrars will likely eliminate public Whois records, and European registrants at other registrars will likely have their Whois information private or not shown depending on the registrar.

Obviously this change will have an impact on the aftermarket and domain name resale marketplaces.

.NYC Travel and Tourism Sale Results

The .NYC registry (operated by Neustar) organized a sale of travel and tourism related .NYC domain names. A domain name auction concluded on Sedo yesterday. This was the culmination of a campaign to generate publicity about .NYC domain names focused on the travel sector.

I was only aware of the Sedo auction, but there was more to the campaign than the auction. Here is a bit more background about the campaign shared with me by Neustar:

“Our campaign initiatives focused on a headlining auction with several high value premium domain names in the .nyc namespace, as well as an additional set of “buy now” travel and tourism-inspired premium domain names available directly through registrars. Having both the auction and buy now premium domain names available created significant demand and interest in the .nyc namepace.”
