TLD Operator Webinar Announced

In an article published on CircleID this afternoon, Tony Kirsch, Head of Global Consulting at ARI Registry Services, announced the TLD Operator Webinar. According to the webinar website, the purpose of the webinar is to “provide all new TLD applicants with an opportunity to share their experiences, learn from each other and focus on the commercial realities of operating a TLD – away from the confines of ICANN, policy or technical discussions.”

I think this is a great concept. All of the companies that operate new gTLD domain names need to ensure that the general public knows about the new domain names. Many of the companies have learnings that could help other companies, and they could work in coopetition for the most part. The exception would be companies operating very similar strings, but for the most part, a company selling .pizza domain names isn’t really competing with a company selling .christmas domain names.

Announced speakers/presenters include the following:

Report: Commercial.Property Sold for $25,000

In an email advertising .Pics domain names for $1.00, Uniregistry announced that DomainNameSales.com sold Commercial.property for $25,000. Based on a historical Whois record from DomainTools, it looks like Commercial.property was previously registered to North Sound Names. The .Property domain extension is operated by Uniregistry.

Commercial.property is now registered at GoDaddy, and the Whois record for this domain name has privacy protection. The landing page still shows a default Uniregistry “for sale” landing page, so it is unclear who bought the domain name. At the time of publication, the domain name is listed for sale at Sedo with a buy it now price of $59,999.

Opener App Using Opener.Link

I was reading an article on Medium this morning, when I came across a new app that is using a .Link domain name for its website. According to the article, Opener “takes in links from the web and opens them in apps on your phone instead.” If you prefer to directly navigate to Opener instead of visiting the app store, you can find it at Opener.Link.

I think it makes sense for Opener to use Opener.Link for its website.

For one thing, Opener is all about links. “Opener has an action extension that shows in the iOS share sheet and allows people to open links in apps. This means you can long press on links or tap the action button in other apps to access Opener,” the author wrote in the Medium article. At the present time, Opener supports opening links in about 50 apps. Once more people learn about it, I am sure this number will increase.

In addition to this, Opener is

Match.Paris UDRP Filed

0

I saw that a UDRP was filed on the Match.Paris domain name at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). When I saw this UDRP on the main WIPO filing page, my first thought was that Match.com, the dating website, filed the UDRP. The UDRP was actually filed by Hachette Filipacchi Presse, a publishing company in France.

Hachette Filipacchi Presse is the publisher of a weekly news magazine called Paris Match. If you have ever been to Paris, you are probably familiar with this publication, which is sold on newsstands throughout the city and possibly the world.

As of right now, Match.Paris does not

Donuts Making 1 Million Domain Names Available

0

Last night,  Donuts sent out an email via its newsletter list to announce the forthcoming availability of “more than one million previously unavailable web addresses” across the company’s top level domain extensions. Included in this will be two character domain names as well as some of the more desirable keywords.

The domain names will first become available through a 7 day EAP program. The available domain names can be bought at various retail registrars that carry Donuts’ domain names, although I was unable to get pricing information from the company. Donuts will be staggering the availability of these domain names by extension, and the launch dates can be seen below.

With the permission of Donuts, I have republished the newsletter below:

Why Geoff Stevens is Using Wyoming.Fish

Name.Kitchen, a website created by Donuts, has an interesting new video series profiling people and companies who have either switched or are  using a new gTLD domain name. I think this will be a neat series to understand why people have selected a new gTLD domain name for their website.

In the video embedded below, Geoff Stevens, a 42-year-old professional fly-fishing guide from Dubois, Wyoming, discusses why he chose to use the Wyoming.Fish domain name for his business. He also owns FishTetons.com, which he now forwards to Wyoming.Fish.

Interestingly, one of the main reasons he abandoned his FishTetons.com domain name in favor of his Wyoming.Fish domain name was because
