Neustar Comments on .NYC Auction Results

0

nyc registryNeustar sold a small portfolio of real estate related .NYC domain names on NameJet, and the auction grossed $70,650 in sales. As one might expect, the top three domain names that were sold in this auction were RealEstate.NYC ($21,300), Apartments.NYC ($16,155), and Rentals.NYC ($5,700).

I do not have any more ties to New York City, so even if I wanted to bid on the auctions, I was not permitted due to nexus restrictions for .NYC domain names. I watched the conclusion of some of the auctions, and it seems that there were at least a few well known New York-based domain investors participating. I am unsure of who won these auctions, but I am interested to see how the domain names will be used.

Lori Anne Wardi, VP of Registry Services at Neustar shared some comments with me about the auction and its results:

Did You Buy Any of the Released Uniregistry Domain Names?

Yesterday, I wrote about Uniregistry releasing 3.5 million domain names for people  to register. I am not really much of an investor in the new domain names besides a handful of them, so I did not register any of these domain names.

I know there are people who are investors in the new domain names, and I am curious if anyone was willing to share the names they registered yesterday. I briefly used the search tool that Uniregistry released in conjunction with the news, but I did really use it enough to comment about it.

It would be interesting to see what types of names became available and what types of names readers thought were valuable enough to register. Feel free to share your new registrations below so I (and other readers) can see the types of domain names that were purchased after the names were released.

Uniregistry to Release 3.5 Million Domains Within the Hour

I just received an email from Uniregistry announcing that they will be “releasing over 3.5 million previously withheld domain names across 19 TLDs.” This will happen in approximately 10 minutes, beginning at 1pm Eastern time today. I believe these domain names will be available at the standard registration and renewal rate, but you will need to check with Uniregistry to confirm as I do not know for certain.

In conjunction with the release of these domain names, the company also launched a search tool to help find domain names amongst the 3.5 million that are being released. Uniregistry announced this to domain industry news outlets, and I also received an email as a Uniregistry client.

I have not yet had a look at the list of domain names that have been released, so I can’t comment on the types of names that will be available to purchase.

Here is the news that was sent to me today:

Saxo Bank Now Using Home.Saxo

saxo-bankSaxo Bank has changed its primary website domain name from SaxoBank.com to Home.Saxo. As you can see, the company is using its own branded .Saxo domain name. According to its website, “Saxo Bank A/S is a fully licensed and regulated Danish bank specialising in online trading and investment across global financial markets.”

News of the change was written about in an article on LeapRate.com, and the company mentioned the article in a tweet earlier this morning:

The article did not have any

Former Clinton Staffer Launches DonaldTrump.GOP

The .GOP domain name extension is operated by Minds & Machines the Republican State Leadership Committee (see Mike’s article for more details). For those outside the United States, “GOP” is an acronym that stands for “Grand Old Party,” which is a nickname for the US Republican Party. The general idea behind the extension is that people associated with the party could use .GOP domain names for political related websites, although I do not believe their are any registration restrictions.

The other day, I saw a retweet on Twitter mentioning a newly launched website, DonaldTrump.GOP. I thought was interesting because it used  a .GOP domain name, which I don’t see regularly:

The registrant of DonaldTrump.GOP  is not using this particular .GOP domain name in support of Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump. In fact, the domain name is owned and operated by

Donuts Clarifies .Doctor Eligibility

.Doctor domain names will be available to purchase in just a couple of weeks, and apparently, there is  a misconception about who can buy or own a .Doctor domain name. Mason Cole, Vice President of Communications & Industry Relations at Donuts, shared some information about .Doctor domain name registration eligibility in order to clarify the misconception.

Here’s what Mason told me:
