NewOrleans.com Listed for Sale via Igloo

The owners of NewOrleans.com have put the domain name, website, and technology up for sale, and Amanda Waltz from Igloo is the broker of record. The company is selling this asset as the principals are looking to invest in other, non-Internet related ventures and to concentrate on their growing New Orleans restaurant business.

The asking price for the business was not publicly released, but I understand it is a seven figure listing. Revenue and traffic stats are available for qualified interested parties to review by contacting Amanda Waltz.

I reached out to Don Jones, one of the owners of the business, and he

Dayton Daily News Appears to Acquire Dayton.com

ActiveDayton.comShortly after the conclusion of the inaugural Heritage Auctions live domain auction, I learned that Dayton.com was sold by the auction house. Although HA did not share the sale price, the auction reserve price had been set at $50,000 plus the 15% buyer’s premium.

Based on the live auction result and the revised sale amount reported by HA’s Aron Meystedt, it appears that the sale price was close to the reserve price, but that is an unconfirmed guess.

The new registrant for Dayton.com is

UDRP Filed on Quebec.com

This morning, I was looking through the recent UDRP filings at the World Intellectual Property Organization, and I saw an aggravating one that should almost certainly be denied, hopefully with a finding of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking. The Ministre des Relations internationales, de la Francophonie et du Commerce extérieur (Department of International Relations)  has filed a UDRP for the Quebec.com domain name.

Quebec.com is owned by Anything.com, Ltd., a company that owns a large portfolio of exceptional keyword domain names, including YL.com, YE.com, 10.com, and many others. The company has owned this domain name since for at least 10 years  and probably much longer than that (Whois history records for this name stop in 2003 and it has a 1998 creation date). That almost certainly means that

Turkey.com Travel Website Launched by Igloo.com

Turkey.comUp until yesterday afternoon, I did not realize that Igloo.com developed domain name assets on behalf of its clients. I was under the assumption that the company solely acted in a domain brokerage and consulting capacity. I just learned that Igloo.com launched a travel website on Turkey.com, on behalf of a client whose identity is private.

Visitors to the website can learn about the country, read about various tourist sites in the country, and can basically plan a trip to the country. As of right now, visitors cannot book a vacation or tours, but I would imagine that will change sometime in the future. The website is not currently monetized either, but I expect that will change in due time.

I reached out to Igloo.com to seek additional details not shared in the press release. According to Igloo.com’s  Alphan Culha,

Kentwood.com Purchased for $40,000

KentwoodThe last time I wrote an article mentioning Peter Niederman, it was when his company acquired Denver.com in a seven figure deal. Peter’s company made another acquisition this week, and while the deal isn’t worth as much as the Denver.com deal, the acqusition is highly valuable to the company.

Peter’s company, Kentwood Real Estate, purchased Kentwood.com from Scott Day’s Digimedia for $40,000. The domain name is now forwarding to DenverRealEstate.com, the primary website for Kentwood. The deal was transacted without the assistance of an intermediary. “As an end user, this is well suited for my real estate company in Denver called Kentwood Real Estate. We will continue to operate our website under DenverRealEstate.com,” Peter told me.

If you live in the Denver area, you’ve probably heard of Kentwood Real Estate. In 2012, Kentwood closed more than $1.7 Billion in real estate transactions in the state of Colorado. This year, the company is on track to surpass $2 billion in transactions. I am told that  Kentwood controls the largest residential real estate market share in the metro Denver area.

There are at least two cities called Kentwood and a number of companies that use Kentwood as their brand name or in their brand name. Buying Kentwood.com may not have been critical for the company, but it certainly was a smart acquisition.

Crain’s Confirms Chicago.com Acquisition

It appears that Crain’s Chicago Business has confirmed the Chicago Sun-Times acquired the Chicago.com business back in June, as reported by SV 411 this August. Chicago.com founder Josh Metnick was retained by the Chicago Sun-Times parent company, Wrapports, LLC.

Here’s an excerpt from an article posted this morning on Crain’s ChicagoBusiness.com website:

“When Chicago Sun-Times parent Wrapports LLC bought @Chicago.com Inc. in June, it got more than the domain name business. The company also snagged the business’ owner, Josh Metnick, as its chief technology officer.”

Josh contributed to the article, providing information about his new role as CTO. In addition to working on a variety of “strategic technology initiatives” and recruiting technology professionals to the company, Josh will continue to focus on the sale of @Chicago.com email addresses. He did not provide any financial details about the sale of Chicago.com, nor did the article mention how successful his company has been at selling @Chicago.com email addresses.

Congratulations to Josh on the sale of the company.
