Breathe Luxury Publishes Auction List With Starting Prices

Breathe Luxury is holding a live domain name auction during the World Travel Market event in London next week. I believe Holiday.com is the most notable domain name that is up for sale in the auction, and there are 35 domain names that will be up for bid during the auction. A large group of .TV domain names are also up for auction.

This afternoon, I received a list of the starting bids for the domain names that are included in the auction. For your convenience, I have published that information for your review:

Breathe Luxury to Auction 14 Geo .TV Domain Names

I received a press release last night announcing that Breathe Luxury will be auctioning 14 geographic .TV domain names at the upcoming World Travel Market in November. The auction will be held in conjunction with the Holiday.com auction  that was announced at the end of August. World Travel Market is billed as “the leading global event for the travel industry,” and it reportedly has  50,000 participants.

The domain names that are being sold are top travel destinations, and they include the following domain names:

Frank Schilling Comments on .London

This morning on Twitter, Uniregistry’s Frank Schilling commented on the successful .London domain name launch. As you can see below, Frank said, “35,000 .london names is a great start! It’s only day 1 and nobody knows what these things are! That’s all gonna change.”

I think Frank is right. Out of those 35,000 domain names, I think

City of Melbourne Promotes .Melbourne

I think geographic new gTLD extensions will be among the most successful new gTLD extensions. I believe local businesses will want their new gTLD (either to use or for defensive reasons), and there will be many others who speculate on them for investment purposes, both domain investors and city dwellers.

One of the reasons I believe  this is going to happen is because of  the support of the cities that must give approval and backing for their associated extension to exist. City governmental organizations  might not  necessarily need to help promote the new TLD, but I think they benefit if the TLD takes off.

Last week, the City of Melbourne, Australia

Poll: .Vegas vs. .NYC

I had a discussion with a friend about the .Vegas and .NYC new gTLD extensions, and we debated about which extension we prefer – .Vegas or .NYC. I won’t reveal which extension I like more, but I am curious about which extension you prefer. Personally, I think the geographic new gTLDs are going to be among the top performers of all new gTLD extensions.

One thing that is unique about these two extensions is that neither .Vegas or .NYC are the full name of their respective cities, Las Vegas and New York City. The .NYC landrush began on August 4, and the .Vegas landrush began today, August 14. .NYC domain names have a residency restriction and .Vegas domain names do not require registrants to have a presence in Las Vegas.

For the sake of the

Would .Mtl Be a Mistake?

The Gazette, a Montreal-based newspaper, published an article about the possibility that the city of Montreal would apply for its own new gTLD extension. The article indicates that .Mtl would be the extension the city would apply for, and I tend to agree with Christopher Hofman Laursen of the European Domain Centre, who believes this application would be a mistake.

I like geographic new gTLD extensions, and I believe many have a great shot of being successful (both in terms of
