Daily Poll: Do You Respond to Domain Sellers When You’re Not Interested?

12

I receive many emails from domain owners trying to sell me their domain names. 99% of the time, the domain names are not of interest to me at all. Almost all the time, I respond to let the person know. I think it is courteous. The downside to responding is that some people think this opens the door to sending me many other domain names to review. Occasionally, people will respond by asking why I don’t want the name or are otherwise rude to me for having the gall of not wanting to buy their domain name.

When you receive an outbound email offering to sell you a domain name, do you usually respond?

Daily Poll: Will You Attend NamesCon Europe 2018?

0

Late last week, I reported that the annual Domaining Europe conference is now a part of NamesCon and will be known as NamesCon Europe. This year’s NamesCon Europe conference will be held June 7-9 in Valencia, Spain at the Hotel Sorolla Palace. Conference organizers are currently offering a 50% off coupon code for attendees to save money on the registration fee.

With the conference approximately three months away, today’s poll asks if you will be attending this year’s conference. At this moment, I am a definite maybe because it’s tough to travel for five days without my wife and kids. How about you?

Daily Poll: Have You Attended an ICANN Meeting?

4

I want to attend an ICANN meeting. I have been tempted several times, but something always seems to come up. The meetings are held in various locations throughout the world, and beyond travel, accommodation, food, and personal expenses, attendance at an ICANN meeting is free.

I have been to many domain industry conferences but never to an ICANN meeting. Have you attended an ICANN meeting?

Daily Poll: Do You Buy Trend Domain Names?

9

For better or worse, I have never been a big buyer of trend domain names. I pretty much missed out on the 3D, VR, 7n/8n, marijuana, and crypto domain name trends. I am sure there have been other trends over the years that I am not thinking about. I occasionally buy “trendy” domain names when I think they have value beyond their trendworthiness, but it is not something I regularly do.

I know quite a few people that have bought and sold some great domain names that would be considered trendy. Some were super valuable before they were trendy and others were hand registrations that turned into valuable sales.

Today’s poll asks if you buy trend domain names. No need (please don’t) share specific examples, but you are welcome to share some general thoughts on why or why not.

Daily Poll: What Was Your Largest Domain Name Sale?

3

Domain name sales are all over the map, and people from around the world can boast domain name sales of all sizes. To be successful at this business, I think people need to consistently sell domain names at high levels. That said, I know several people who excel in the 4 figure range and probably do more business than some of the people who sell a few six or seven figure names each year.

For today’s poll, I asked what the value of your largest domain name sale is. The brackets are fairly large and there’s no need for you to be specific in the comment section unless you care to share.

Daily Poll: Is Ele.me the Most Valuable .ME Domain Name?

3

Yesterday, I wrote about Ele.me, a China-based foot takeout business valued in the billions of dollars that uses a .ME domain name. In the comment section, someone asked if this is the most valuable .ME domain name, so I thought I would leave it to you guys to answer. Is Ele.ME the most valuable .ME domain name or are others like FB.ME, M.ME, or WP.ME more valuable?
