Important: 2020 NamesCon Global Date Change

I want to share an update with you that I just received from NamesCon organizers. The date of the NamesCon Global conference in Austin, Texas has been changed. NamesCon Global 2020 will be held from January 29-February 1, 2020. It had previously been scheduled for a few days prior.

Here’s the email that was sent with more details:

NamesCon Europe Announced 2020 – 2022 Locations

As NamesCon Europe concludes in Cascais, Portugal, NamesCon CEO Soeren von Varchmin announced the locations for the 2020, 2021, and 2022 conferences. NamesCon Europe 2020 will take place in Budapest, Hungary, NamesCon Europe 2021 will be held in Rome, Italy, and NamesCon Europe 2022 will be held in Cologne, Germany.

NamesCon Europe Auction Goes Live

It looks like the auction list for NamesCon Europe has been published on NameJet. Bidding on domain names in the upcoming conference auction has begun. Assuming the auction is run in the same way as the NamesCon Global auction in January, there will be a smaller group of domain names included in a live auction held on Thursday, June 20th.

I took a quick look through the auction page, and here are some of the notable domain names included in the auction:

2nd Annual Indian Domain Summit is This Weekend

The Indian Domain Summit will be taking place in India on April 27th. The one-day domain investment conference will be held in Amritsar, Punjab at the Golden Sarovar Portico Amritsar. I believe this is the second edition of the Indian Domain Summit.

Here’s the focus of the conference, according to the event website:

Network Solutions Lists DomainNames.com in NamesCon Auction

NameJet will be hosting the NamesCon live and extended domain name auction at the end of January in conjunction with Right of the Dot (Monte Cahn). This afternoon, NameJet distributed a press release to announce some of the better domain names that will be included in this year’s auction. One domain name really stood out to me amongst the others.

DomainNames.com is listed for sale in the NamesCon auction with a reserve price range of between $300,000 – $400,000. From what I understand, DomainNames.com is a domain name that is owned by Network Solutions. If you visit DomainNames.com, you will be forwarded directly to Network Solutions’ website.

I find it interesting that Network Solutions has decided to sell this domain name. For one thing, the company is in the domain name business. Secondly, the company would effectively give a competitor the opportunity to buy the domain name and compete with it. Sure, one might see that DomainNames.com is being underutilized as a forwarder, but I don’t understand why it would be listed for sale publicly in auction where the buyer could be any company that bids highest above the reserve price.

Notably, Network Solutions’ parent company is Web.com, which also owns NameJet after acquiring Tucows’ ownership stake in the auction platform earlier this month.

Beyond DomainNames.com, some of the other exceptional domain names included in the auction are:

NamesCon Offering Sponsor Discounts for Black Friday

I know that Black Friday is nearly over, but I just noticed that NamesCon is offering special Black Friday deals geared towards conference sponsors. The promotion was announced this evening on Twitter:

It looks like there are a variety of sponsorship opportunities available including booth discounts, a party sponsorship, wifi sponsorship, and other sponsor opportunities for domain industry companies.

Based on my recollection, I would imagine these deals may come up again for Cyber Monday if it’s too late for Black Friday.

Like it does every year, NamesCon is also offering
