A few days ago, I wrote about how the Backpage.com domain name expired and was in pending delete status. Prior to its expiry, Backpage.com had been seized by the US Department of Justice. Backpage.com wasn’t renewed, it fully deleted, and DropCatch.com caught the domain name and sent it to a three day auction.
The auction concluded this afternoon. After dozens of bids and backorders were placed, the auction closed with a high bid of $259,500. A screenshot of the final sale price was shared by Shane Cultra on X:
I want to be Turn Commerce and Dropcatch. com when I grow up. First, they get the Spend. com sale now

DropCatch doesn’t generally report when its auctions are paid for and closed, but the platform re-auctions domain name auctions that default. We’ll have to keep an eye on the Whois record to see if the buyer becomes public.
Backpage.com has a pretty checkered past, so it will be interesting to see how this domain name is used by the winning bidder. One big winner in this is DropCatch.com. According to Namebio, this will be the second largest sale on the platform, trailing the $802,500 sale of Spend.com last month.
That is a lot of money for a domain which has an active trademark for the exact .com.
Who the buyer,??
The big Q is …will it be paid???
Show me the money.
