Anthropic Appears to Have Acquired Claude.com

A month ago, I noticed the Claude.com domain name transferred from Network Solutions to corporate domain registrar MarkMonitor. The domain name had been registered under Whois privacy, and it is currently registered to DNStination Inc., Mark Monitor’s privacy service. The domain name transfer was brought to my attention with the help of DomainTools’ Registrant Monitor tool.

In my post about the domain name transfer, I mentioned that Anthropic AI chat platform is called Claude. The company uses the Claude.ai domain name for this platform.

For almost a month following the Claude.com domain name transfer, there was a message on the landing page:

“Moving to a new faster, better server. Please come back soon!

Claude”

Within the past day or so, the Claude.com nameservers changed from DomainControl to Cloudflare. In fact, the Cloudflare nameservers appear to be the same for Claude.ai as they are for Claude.com – Isla.ns and Randy.ns. The domain name also began forwarding to Claude.ai (with this tracking redirect url: https://claude.ai/login?returnTo=%2F%3Fredirect%3Dclaude.com). Given this combined with the fact that the domain name is registered at MarkMonitor, I am pretty sure that we can say Anthropic acquired Claude.com.

Notably, some of the largest AI companies have been acquiring their brand matching .com domain names to align with their .ai domain names. OpenAI acquired Chat.com and ChatGPT.com and Perplexity recently acquired Perplexity.com.

  1. Claude .com upgrade by Anthropic is sure sign 2025 might be the year of the .ai to .com upgrade movement.
From the beginning of the .ai boom, it was inevitable the strongest ai branded companies will upgrade to .com.

Those companies with long-term viability in the .ai are separating from their competitors.

    All roads lead to dotcom.

      • If all roads didn’t lead to dotcom, they would have stayed pat on .ai.

Eventually, most that make such high dollar upgrades will forward the non-dotcom to the KING of all domain extensions – DOTCOM.

        Give a few months.

      • Same thing happened when Zoom.us bought Zoom.com

Now no one thinks to go to Zoom.us

I’ve been helping AI clients get ai.com even if they have .ai

        • You will have a banner year in 2025.
The optimism in Silicon Valley and Wall Street will crescendo over the next few months.

This bodes well for startups VC raising efforts.

    • Anthropic raised nearly $2 billion over the last three years from A-D round.
They are a strong IPO prospect for 2025.

My guess, they paid $1M minimum.
