2020 NamesCon Europe Postponed – Will be a Virtual Event

It’s probably not going to come as a surprise to anyone, but the NamesCon Europe conference scheduled for August of this year has been postponed due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. I think this is the right decision because people will be apprehensive to travel this Summer, even if they are permitted to do so.

NamesCon organizers are planning to host a virtual event at some point this Summer. In the email announcing the postponement of NamesCon Europe, organizers posted a link to a survey asking for feedback about this virtual conference. I shared my thoughts about a virtual conference already, but since I am probably in the minority on this, I think it would be helpful for others to participate in the survey and help shape the virtual event.

In addition to this update on NamesCon Europe, conference organizers said they are still planning for NamesCon Global 2021.

Here’s the email that was sent by conference organizers this morning, along with a survey link:

NamesCon Europe Postponed to 2021

You probably saw this coming, but we must reschedule NamesCon Europe 2020. Since every country is still fighting the coronavirus, we can’t predict what travel will look like this summer, so we are aiming to prevent last-minute inconvenience and disappointment. We’ll still be meeting in Budapest next summer, and the new dates are already set: July 15-17, 2021.
(UEFA Champions League will run June 11-July 11, so you can make a big post-pandemic trip out of it!)

We are not abandoning you though—no way. We’re evaluating a virtual replacement event for this summer, so stay tuned!

WE WANT NAMESCON TO BE EVERYWHERE
We want to bring every corner of the domaining world together to continue the work of the Domain Economic Forum, as well as to foster more networking and partnerships in this person-to-person business. Staying connected is important for individual business outcomes as well as boosting the profile of the industry as a whole. That’s why we’re planning NamesCon’s first-ever virtual conference.

We want to deliver a summer event, to bring everyone together, but the dates have not been finalized. Don’t worry, though: travel and hotel won’t be an issue… This is where your experience and insight can shine—the survey and call for submissions are now open.

WHAT’S UP WITH NAMESCON GLOBAL 2021?
We’re optimists at heart, so we’re still planning for NamesCon Global 2021—keep your fingers crossed! We had a great time in Austin and left with some ideas for how to make our next gathering even better, so naturally we’ll do what we can to make sure that actually happens. Of course we’ll keep you in the loop: be sure to follow us on social media so you don’t miss anything!
