Despite the fact that I have been involved in the domain name investment space for close to 15 years (full time for 12), I still don’t have expert level knowledge about the Domain Name System (DNS). I know enough about DNS to get by, but I would not consider myself anything close to an expert when it comes to DNS.
ICANN will be hosting a free webinar to help people learn more about DNS Fundamentals. The webinar was announced this morning on ICANN’s Twitter feed:
#ICANN Learn is offering a new course on DNS Fundamentals. The course introduces the different components of the Domain Name System (DNS). Explore DNS processes such as DNS delegations, DNS resolution, and caching. To learn more, sign up here: https://t.co/wMWaACbeth pic.twitter.com/B4fMmSkHjl

In looking through the free learning and education section on ICANN’s website, it looks like the DNS fundamentals course is not yet available for sign-up. There are quite a few other courses that might be of interest to people involved in the business of domain investing. The Introduction to ICANN course might be a good start for people who would like to learn more about ICANN, what ICANN is supposed to do, and ICANN’s involvement in Internet governance and ultimately domain names.
I wasn’t aware of the free webinar courses offered by ICANN, but I am going to check them out. There are several topics that could benefit me as a Publisher, and I think it is good to have more background information about ICANN’s role in domain investing.
Also note that ICANN will have a session at NamesCon. 11:30-12:30 on Wednesday. We will cover the ICANN structure, requirements of being an ICANN Accredited Registrar and how to find out more information on the Registration Data Access Protocol (RDAP) and changes to WHOIS.
Thanks, Andee.
See you at NamesCon.
For the policy side of things, ICANN public meetings generally have beginners sessions towards the start of the week that can be remotely participated in.
