Results From Sedo’s 4 Letter .com Auction

Sedo hosted a 4 letter .com domain name auction that concluded yesterday. This themed auction is separate from the monthly Great Domains auction. Although the sale resulted in just over $24,000 worth of domain name sales, I think it is worth highlighting because it offers some insight into the current state of the 4L .com marketplace.

The top three LLLL.com sales in the auction were RVRR.com for $2,550, LOTB.com for $2,050, and PRCH.com for $1,605. I do not see any one word names that sold in this auction, so I suspect most would be used for their acronym value.

Did Microsoft Sell Rapt.com Domain Name for $25,000?

Microsoft has many excellent domain names in its portfolio, and the company rarely sells its domain name assets. Yesterday, Jamie Zoch noticed that Rapt.com appears to have been sold by Microsoft.

Microsoft appears to have sold the #domain name Rapt(.)com according to whois records. Domain transferred to GoDaddy and redirects to FLXBio(.)com currently, which has $139M in funding according to Crunchbase.

Univision Acquired TUDN.com Ahead of Rebrand

This morning, I read a Deadline.com article about Univision’s rebrand of its Univision Deportes network. The new brand name will be TUDN. Smartly, it looks like the company acquired the brand match TUDN.com domain name in advance of the acquisition. It does not look like the matching @tudn Twitter handle was acquired by the company though.

Sedo Eliminates Minimum Fee on Sales

Sedo announced that it is removing the minimum fee on domain name sales transacted via its platform. Prior to the announcement, the domain sales platform had previously charged a minimum fee of either $60 (for the vast majority of extensions) or $200. The minimum sale prices were $90 and $230 respectively.

In place of the minimum fee, Sedo is now charging a straight up commission. Here’s what the company said on its website announcing the change:

Cooking.com Sells for $402,500 via Great Domains Auction

Sedo’s Great Domains auction concluded a few moments ago, and Cooking.com was sold for $402,500. The auction was extended by over and hour and a half as the high bidder continued to slowly increase the high bid enough to hit the reserve price. In total, there were 39 bids placed in the auction.

Sedo recently entered the expired domain name auction business. I was just informed that the company made it easier for users to search for expiry inventory without having to sort through other types of inventory listed for sale on Sedo (BIN, make offer, private auction…etc.).
