2869.com Deletes and Will Likely Go To Auction

2869-com-domain

It looks like the valuable 2869.com domain name expired and was deleted. Depending on which drop catching service catches this domain name, it will likely go to auction sometime this afternoon.

I had a look at the pre-orders at NameJet, and there are currently 66 bids with a high bid of $6,700. Because it is a pending delete auction NameJet and Snapnames will team up and bidding can be done on either platform. DropCatch.com, Pheenix, and other drop catch auction services will also be vying for this domain name when it becomes available to snag. People interested in bidding on the domain name should backorder it at their favorite back order auction platform within the next couple of hours or so (at the time of publication).

The domain name appears to have been owned by

Fidel.com Sold for $16k About a Week Ago

The big news of the day is the death of Cuba’s Fidel Castro, who was 90 years old. Coincidentally, the Fidel.com domain name sold in an expired  domain auction at NameJet for $16,000 a little over 8 days ago.

It’s always a bit of a mystery to see a valuable domain name deleted. Estibot pegs Fidel.com’s value at $50,000, although the market was a bit less enthusiastic than Estibot’s valuation. There were 185 bids from 156 bidders in this auction. I was a bidder in the auction.

Archive.org shows quite a few entries for Fidel.com, but I see a mixture of Sedo landing pages and either generic domain registrar or web hosting landing pages. I am not sure if the domain name was ever developed before. Prior to its expiration, Fidel.com was owned by a registrant in France. I checked NameBio, and they do not have any archived sales for this domain name.

I wonder if Fidel.com is worth more now that Fidel Castro is dead.

NameJet to Host NamesCon 2017 Live Auction

namescon-2017-auctionNameJet will once again play host to the live domain name auction that will be held during the 2017 NamesCon conference in Las Vegas. The domain auction is being organized by Monte Cahn’s consulting firm, Right of the Dot. The live auction will be held at the Tropicana hotel on January 23rd from 3PM – 6PM Pacific time. A press release  sharing information about the auction was published this morning.

Here’s an excerpt from the press release with some details about the auction that you might find interesting:

“The auctions will feature some of the best .com and new gTLD names available anywhere including a super premium bundled lot featuring BAR.COM, BAR.NET, CAFES.COM, GRILL.COM, PLACE.COM, PUB.COM SHELTER.COM, and other individual premium and super premium names such as LEADS.COM, SPORTSCARS.COM, PATTY.COM, STOP.COM, WINECLUB.COM, GOLD.CLUB, SINGLE.COM, E.HOSTING, MORTGAGE.BROKER, PPL.NET, and others. There will be an estimated 400 names in the overall auction with an estimated 125 domains being offered at the live auction on January 23rd. Many premium domains will be priced at no and low reserves to promote competitive bidding and true market prices.”

NameJet added a link to the auction in its menu, and you can have a look at the domain names that will be included in the auction. You can also start bidding or backordering domain names in the auction if you would like. I already noticed several domain names in my auction list that I had not removed from my backorder list.

If you have high value names for sale, it may not be too late to get them submitted, as detailed in the press release:

JackNicholson.com: Another Expiring Celebrity Domain Name

It looks like JackNicholson.com is going to auction if the domain name is not renewed in a very short period  of time. JackNicholson.com was created in October of 1998, and as you can see on the landing page, the domain name expired a little over a month ago:

jacknicholson-com

Prior to the expiration of JackNicholson.com, the registrant of the domain name was listed as John J. Nicholson. A Wikipedia page for the award winning actor lists his name as John Joseph “Jack” Nicholson. The last listed registrant email address appears to have been an email address affiliated with a

AATI.com UDRP Filed One Month After it Sold on NameJet (Updated)

nafI noticed a UDRP was filed against the 4 letter AATI.com domain name at the National Arbitration Forum (NAF) within the past couple of days. The case is #1701430. It caught my attention because it is a valuable 4 letter .com domain name, and nothing really stood out for me when I thought of the “AATI” initials.

Mike Berkens shared an interesting tweet about the domain name:

According to NameBio, AATI.com did indeed sell on NameJet for $2,510 on October 11th. I did not have this domain name backordered, so I can’t tell you how many

NameJet Should Broker Names That Didn’t Meet Reserve

0

NameJet LogoI am a regular bidder on NameJet, and I find myself bidding on auctions that have reserve prices. Oftentimes, these auctions do not meet their reserve prices, and the domain names don’t sell. I think NameJet should try to work with sellers and bidders to close deals on domain names that did not meet reserve prices.

In my opinion, if NameJet were to privately broker deals on unsold domain names, it would be a win for all three parties. Sellers might be able to sell more inventory, buyers would get to buy less expensively (and privately), and NameJet would earn a commission on any sales it helped to close.

Sellers  won’t have to deal with collecting a payment, and they also don’t need to worry about handling the transfer. Buyers can easily submit their payment in the same manner as it would have been submitted had it been an auction, and the domain name would be  transferred immediately upon payment. There is far less friction with this type of transaction than a private transaction between two parties that haven’t done business before.
