I list the majority of my domain names for sale on GoDaddy via its Afternic distribution network. These are the easy to replace inventory types of domain names I try to buy and/or sell every day for reasonable prices and returns. Some of my most valuable domain names are not listed for sale via GoDaddy though.

When one of my domain names that is listed for sale on Afternic gets an offer, a broker typically contacts me to let me know how much the prospective buyer is willing to pay. GoDaddy is working on my behalf on this type of negotiation, and they work with the buyer to try and get a deal done at my asking price or close. If a deal is successful, I am responsible to pay the full commission. By way of example, if someone offers $2,000 for my domain name and I take it, I will net about $1,600.

I was on a call with GoDaddy this morning where the company shared some insights from the past year along with some things that are coming in 2021. One of the most exciting things I think domain investors will appreciate is that GoDaddy will be launching a GoDaddy-branded buy it now landing page for domain names listed for sale on Afternic.

GoDaddy has launched this buy it now page on a handful of domain names from its portfolio for testing purposes. Although it does not appear to be in use directly on the landing page right now, a visitor who clicks the purchase link on the top of the TowelSpa.com landing page will be able to access this BIN page. GoDaddy has acquired another domain name portfolio, which will be added to the company’s NameFind portfolio. Jamie Zoch first reported the acquisition in a tweet this morning:

GoDaddy SVP and Aftermarket GM Paul Nicks confirmed that the company made the acquisition in an email to me. “I can confirm, we acquired another portfolio and are excited to price the domains and bring them to market,” he told me.

Last October, I changed the phone number I have on my Whois address for domain names I acquire and have registered at NameBright. I am using a Google Voice account with “Do not disturb” on since any phone calls or text messages to that number will be spam from businesses who think my “new” looking domain name registrations mean I am in the market for development or design services.

Since setting up this Google Voice account, I have had over 1,000 phone calls with a bunch of voicemails and text messages. Having the Google Voice account has really helped reduce the volume of unsolicited calls and texts.
