.CO Gets (Free) NASCAR Exposure

Brandt is an agriculture company that “helps farmers mitigate risk.” The company recently changed its website url to Brandt.CO, and it appears that they are using their NASCAR sponsorship to get the word out. As you can see, the new url is prominently located on the hood of the #31 car, driven by  Justin Allgaier (photo from Brandt racing website).

Last year, the car’s hood only said “Brandt Professional Agriculture” and this year, the Brandt.CO url sits in front of the “Professional Agriculture” tagline. Now if only the racing team would ditch the long, hyphenated brandt-inc-racing.com domain name for its website, the company would be better off.

Interestingly, Brandt.com is owned by a French company that does not appear to offer similar products or services. Hopefully, NASCAR fans will note the url change and not visit the other site. Wonder if the .CO url will be prominent on t-shirts, hats, and other branded NASCAR paraphernalia. In my opinion, it’s doubtful that the .CO Registry had anything to do with the placement (confirmed).

Willis McGahee in Name.com Spoof of GoDaddy .CO Super Bowl Commercial

5

The tradition of spoofing Go Daddy’s .CO commercial has continued in 2012. Name.com posted this humorous video of Denver Broncos star running back Willis McGahee in a spoof of Godaddy’s “Body Paint” Super Bowl commercial.

With all due respect to McGahee, I prefer the Godaddy commercial starring Godaddy girl  Natalia Velez.

Startup America Partnership Using S.CO

49

Startup America is a privately funded, highly touted organization with three goals: “Provide valuable resources and connections to help young companies grow. Support regional startup ecosystems throughout the country. Recognize startups as the drivers of our economy and their founders as American heroes.

The organization, chaired and co-founded by America Online founder Steve Case, is sponsored by heavy hitting companies and organizations like The Case Foundation, American Express, Dell, Intuit, and Microsoft. According to the organization’s website, it has put together over $1 billion in financial commitments to support the growth of startup companies and entrepreneurs in the United States.

It was just announced that the organization is moving from its long, StartupAmericaPartnership.org domain name to the far more memorable and manageable S.CO. Terms of the deal were not released, but ownership of S.CO is still in the name of the .CO Registry, so it may not have been bought by the organization.

Go Daddy Posts .CO Super Bowl Ad

8

Although GoDaddy generally waits until Super Bowl Sunday to post their commercials, the company has decided to post at least one earlier than normal this year. On the Go Daddy home page, there’s a small banner below the fold that says “Be the first to see our new Ad! Click to see why Dot CO domains from Go Daddy have never looked so sexy!

Although embedding is disabled for the video, you can visit Godaddy’s website to see the commercial. As I mentioned, the .CO GoDaddy Girl is Colombian model Natalia Velez, who looks beautiful in the commercial.

As you will see, there’s also a call to action encouraging viewers to see “a lot more now” on the GoDaddy.CO website, although I couldn’t find a link to the video on the .CO website.

Overall, I think it’s a pretty good commercial from Go Daddy and the .CO Registry, since their objective is to send people to the website to learn more about why they think businesses should consider buying and using a .CO domain name.

Super Bowl .CO Go Daddy Girl Revealed

18

I just read an article in USA Today discussing Go Daddy’s Super Bowl commercials, and I believe it revealed the name of the new GoDaddy girl that will be starring in the .CO-specific commerical. It’s not Joan Rivers.

Although the article does not mention the model’s name, the caption has revealed what was once a guarded secret. The caption reads, “Danica Patrick, left, and Jillian Michaels paint Colombian model Natalia Velez in a Super Bowl commercial being shot at GoDaddy.com’s offices in Scottsdale, Ariz.”

According to a variety of sources online, Natalia Velez is a professional model from  Medellín, Colombia, and she was born in 1985. You can watch the video embedded above to see more shots of Ms. Velez, and you can watch the video below to learn more about Godaddy, its Super Bowl advertising strategy and see some shots from the commercial filming.

It’s a far cry from last year’s  commercial  with Joan Rivers.

Sedo Selected to Broker Top .CO Domains

15

A press release just hit the wires this morning announcing that the .CO Registry has selected Sedo as the exclusive domain broker for a small group of premium .CO domain names that haven’t been marketed before. Some of the names that are under exclusive with Sedo include:

  • clothes.co
  • software.co
  • hardware.co
  • body.co
  • france.co
  • profit.co
  • onlinemusic.co
  • internetmarketing.co
  • onlinedating.co
  • jobsonline.co

It’s not clear if additional domain names are included with this particular deal. The .CO Registry selected Sedo because “Sedo has done a fabulous job helping to establish and develop the secondary market for premium .CO domain names,” said Lori Anne Wardi, vice president of .CO Internet S.A.S. “Given their expertise and global reach, we are confident that Sedo is the perfect partner to help us bring these valuable digital assets to end-users worldwide.”

Sedo has set up a separate website on Sedo.CO to market .CO domain names that are for sale. Many of these domain names are priced, so you can buy them without having to negotiate if that’s your preference.
