Candidate Gets Flack for Old Domain Investments

When I read about domain names being involved in a political campaign, it is usually because one candidate bought a domain name related to an opponent. Sometimes it is because a campaign registered or acquired a provocative or creative domain name – like KeepAmericaGreat.com or Bidenomics.com.

That’s not the case in Tarrant County, Texas. A candidate running for the Texas House of Representatives is getting flack for some domain names he bought as investments, according to a report from the Dallas-Ft. Worth NBC affiliate. Apparently, the candidate owned some adult-related domain names more than 10 years ago, and he is being called out by his opponent.

Here’s what the NBC affiliate wrote:

“Critics, including Rep. Klick in an interview, pointed to the fact in the past Lowe purchased some porn domain names to sell among with others for multi-level marketing and other websites. He calls the criticism ‘an absolute distraction from her miserable voting record.’”

‘Look, I owned domain names. I owned over 200 of them and I think they all expired to the last one. I think it was 2011 and I was trying to make a quick buck in the military I didn’t sell or run any porn sites and it’s disgusting that she would try and transition from policy attacks, policy issues to personal attacks.’”

Many years ago, I owned and sold some domain names with adult-terms in them. When I told my parents, they were flabbergasted. I probably still have a few domain names in my portfolio that could be considered adult-oriented.

It is interesting that someone’s domain name investments from more than 10 years ago have become a topic in a political campaign. I guess political viewpoints are more conservative in that area of the country. I suppose domain investors who may run for political office should be mindful of the domain names they own or at least put the potentially sensitive domain names under privacy.

  2. It does not say how they connected the domains to him. You would think with adult domains they would be under whois privacy. I guess if he was trying to sell them his contact info may have been listed somewhere.

  3. All those billion dollars spending in elections is a freaking waste
The only winner is the media companies…. advertising
They should follow English elections…you can only advertise 2 mths before election and nothing 1 week be the real date
