Eternal.com Sold by Anything.com

Yesterday morning, I read an article that refuted reports that Zomato, an India-based food delivery service, would rebrand itself as Eternal. This article made me curious about the Eternal.com domain name that may have been necessary had the company opted for this rebrand. There is some circumstantial evidence that leads me to believe that the company may have acquired the Eternal.com domain name.

Whois records show Eternal.com is registered under Whois privacy at 101Domain. The Zomato.com domain name is also registered at 101Domain. The only registrant-related information shown on the Zomato.com Whois record is the registrant country is IN (India). A recent entry from the Whois History tool at DomainTools in February shows the registrant country for Eternal.com was also IN, before the domain name changed to Whois privacy. Both Eternal.com and Zomato.com use AWS nameservers.

The Eternal.com landing page indicates it is a food delivery service. I poked around a bit on the website, and the business does not appear to be operational at this point.

Using the Whois History tool at DomainTools once again, I can see that Eternal.com had been owned by Anything.com, a domain investment portfolio company. From what I can see, it appears the domain name changed hands around April of 2021. At that time, the domain name transferred from Tucows to 101Domain.

I reached out to representatives from Anything.com to ask about the Eternal.com domain name. I was able to get confirmation that the domain name was sold, but the price could not be shared.

Because of Whois privacy, I can’t confirm that Zomato or an entity associated with Zomato acquired the Eternal.com domain name. It sure likes like that is the case, though.

  1. Hi Elliot
Is this practice common that based on a high web search on a particular name, overnight a fake entity buys it and develops a fake website which was clearly ai generated?
