Google Job: Product Management Lead, gTLD Registry

Google posted a job listing that might be of interest to someone with domain name industry experience. The company is looking to hire a Product Management Lead for its gTLD Registry team. The job appears to be based in New York City, San Francisco, or possibly remotely.

Google operates nearly a dozen new gTLD extensions. Two of its most popular and widely used extensions include .App and .Dev. The company also operates .Day, .New, .Page, and a few others. It is possible that Google would be interested in applying for additional extensions once ICANN opens its next round of new gTLD applications or the company could acquire currently operating extensions.

The job description doesn’t give a ton of information about the role, but the responsibility section offers more details about what the person will be responsible for doing. Here’s an excerpt with general details about the job:

“In this role, you will work cross-functionally to guide products from conception to launch by connecting the technical and business worlds. You can break down complex problems into steps that drive product development at Google speed.”

Google would prefer to hire someone with domain industry expertise. “Experience working with domain registries or registrars, and/or a familiarity with the standard domain name lifecycle,” is a preferred qualification.

Uniquely from what I can tell, Google posted the salary / compensation for this job for someone in Colorado. I presume the salary would be similar or even better elsewhere since an applicant would probably be unwilling to accept that someone in Colorado is worth more than them:

(Colorado only*) Minimum salary range between $174,000 – $187,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
*Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation range for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.

If you’re interested in applying for this job, you can do so via Google’s website.
