Green.com Sold by IAC in Deal Overseen by ATM Holdings

This morning, I noticed a Whois change for the Green.com domain name courtesy of a Registrant Monitor alert at DomainTools. Green.com had been long owned by IAC and registered at MarkMonitor. The domain name is now registered to DNStination, Inc., the MarkMonitor Whois privacy service. In addition to this change, the nameservers also changed and there’s a new landing page with a logo for Splash.

When I clicked the hiring link on the landing page, I learned Splash is a neobank startup. Its LinkedIn page says the company is “building a consumer finance app for emerging markets, in partnership with extremely large distribution partners.” I also saw the company uses Splash.cash for its website. The landing page on Splash.cash and Green.com are now the same.

When I saw the domain name change hands, I reached out to Andrew Miller to see if he knew anything about the domain name. Andrew had some insight as he was involved in the sale. “ATM Holdings oversaw a win-win transaction for the buyer and seller,” Andrew told me.

Unfortunately, Andrew also told me he couldn’t comment about the sale price. Because IAC is a publicly traded company, there’s a chance the transaction could be reported in a future SEC filing. That remains to be seen.

Based on how the domain name is now being used, I have to assume Splash is going to rebrand using Green.com. If that is what happens, that would be a huge move. Green.com is an exceptional domain name. I think there is a trust and credibility factor with this domain name, both of which should help this startup if that is the plan.

I will keep my eye on Green.com and check back on future IAC SEC filings to see if more information becomes available.
