ICANN CEO Application Deadline Approaching

According to a news release this past May, current ICANN President and CEO Fadi Chehadé “will be concluding his tenure in March 2016 to move into a new career.” Because of his pending departure, ICANN is now seeking candidates for the CEO position, and the application deadline is Sunday, September 20, 2015.

ICANN’s website has a detailed job description for the CEO position. In short, “ICANN requires a public interest-minded leader with a combination of business, diplomatic and organizational skills to assume the leadership of a successful multi-stakeholder organization.” There are quite a few requirements for the ideal candidate, which are detailed on the website.

I can think of a few good candidates for this position, but I am not sure any of them would want to take on this important role. My guess is there will be quite a few candidates from around the world who apply for the position.

I think 2016 is going to be an important year for ICANN. There are quite a few decisions that need to be made that will impact all of us who make a living in the domain name space.

You are welcome to share some thoughts on who you would like to see in the CEO role if you’d like.
