Byte.xyz Sold for $129,888 (Updated)

The Afternic Twitter account posted an image of an Afternic sales notification email informing the owner of Byte.xyz that the domain name was sold via its network for $129,888:

From what I can tell, Byte.xyz was sold by Swetha Yenugula, the owner of some of the best .XYZ domain names. From what I can see, I believe this is Swetha’s largest publicly reported .XYZ domain name sale.

Not only is this sale one of the top .XYZ domain name sales reported publicly, but the commentary from Afternic is also notable. Using the word “continue” in the tweet implies that this may not be such an anomalous sale. In fact, there are now five $100,000+ sales of .XYZ domain names this year alone. The Byte.xyz sale is the third largest publicly reported .XYZ domain name sale of all time. In 2021, there were no public six figure .XYZ sales.

At the time of publication, Byte.xyz still resolves to a Afternic / GoDaddy landing page. The domain name is registered under Whois privacy at Dynadot, so the buyer is unknown. I will keep an eye on Byte.xyz to see how this domain name is used by the buyer.

Update: According to Swetha, the sale was canceled:
