AICPA Introducing .CPA Domain Names

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is preparing for the launch of the .CPA domain name extension. There will be a number of requirements for accountants and accounting firms to obtain and use a matching .CPA domain name.

This morning, the Journal of Accountancy published an article with details about .CPA domain names and the launch of the .CPA extension. From what I understand, the .CPA extension will be marketed as an enhanced way for CPAs and accounting firms to increase trust and security while promoting their brands online.

The AICPA has a position paper (pdf file found at Domains.CPA) detailing the .CPA extension, and the organization also produced a video discussing .CPA domain names, which I have embedded below.

From my brief glance at .CPA, it seems similar in nature to the .Realtor extension that has been marketed by the National Association of Realtors to its Realtor members. There has been a pretty significant decline in registered .Realtor domain names since 2015.
