Samba.com Now Forwarding to Samba.tv

Three weeks ago, Samba.com sold for $143,000 in a NameJet expiry auction. Samba.com is an exceptional domain name, and there are many branded companies that would benefit from owning it. At $143k, it wasn’t out of the realm of possibility that an aggressive domain investor acquired the domain name to be a portfolio asset. That doesn’t appear to have happened.

Samba.com now redirects to Samba.tv, the primary domain name of Samba TV, an analytics company specializing in television audience insights. Backed by substantial venture funding, Samba TV’s technology is integrated into numerous smart TVs, allowing advertisers to deliver more relevant ads and personalize content recommendations based on viewing habits.

Due to Whois privacy at Network Solutions, I can’t independently confirm that the Samba.com domain name was acquired by Samba TV, but I don’t think it would make sense for someone else to win this domain name and forward it like this. As a result of this acquisition, Samba has been added to the list of companies that upgraded its domain name maintained on Embrace.com.

Obviously Samba.TV is a fine domain name for a company called Samba TV, but having Samba.com will benefit the company and distinguish it from competitors and other companies with Samba in branding. It will also prevent another company from calling itself Samba with the Samba.com domain name.

$143,000 isn’t exactly “cheap” this domain name, but I think it’s a very good price for a domain name asset of this caliber.

  1. Samba TV saved themselves a cool million.
More end-users are entering the wholesale space to secure their dotcom.

If Spend .com $802K auction was paid, it is the best example I’ve ever seen of this trend

  2. Not that I endorse the notion of migrating to .com is an upgrade, but I doubt using .com as merely a redirect can be called an upgrade.
