Namecheap announced that it published its 2025 Domain Insights & Trends Report. The report analyzes its data to offer a look at how domain name usage, registrations, and buyer behavior continue to evolve over the last year. The report pulls from Namecheap’s internal data coupled with broader market observations.
While the report focused on data from last year, it also shared some insights into the current year and what the company expects on the horizon. For instance, the company shared the following insight about some of the extensions that are seeing growth:
“Looking ahead to 2026, registration volume tells only part of the story. While .com continues to anchor familiarity and trust, .ai, .app and .space are seeing rapid growth driven by tech industry development and pricing factors.”
Notably, while Namecheap is a very popular domain registrar, I would imagine the company has somewhat of a higher percentage of clients in the tech space vs. small retail businesses. This could skew the data a bit towards those particular verticals. That being said, I think the tech space (AI, data, ML…etc) are driving quite a bit of domain name aftermarket sales.
The full report can be accessed via Namecheap’s website.

Interesting that .com made up 40.1 percent of all new registrations in 2025 versus 38,7 percent in 2024 at Namecheap. I would have expected .com’s share to decrease.
Namecheap is going downhill after the sale…
Spaceship and unstoppable are taking over.
