NameBright Offering $6.29 / $6.59 .com Registrations

NameBright is currently running a promotion for new .com registrations. The price is $6.29/year for pre-funded accounts and $6.59 for credit card payments, which is what I chose. Like many other domain registrars, NameBright offers free domain privacy on all .com registrations.

There is no promo / discount code required to take advantage of the discount, and it does not look like there are any limits to the number of domain names that can be registered. This promotion only applies to new registrations and not transfers or renewals.

I am unsure when this promotion ends.

  1. Sorry to be a potential party pooper… but what are the regular renewal costs?

I have often found it to be too much of a pain to buy one year at a bait price, and then be hit hard next year and subsequent years with high renewals. And transferring is time consuming, and also difficult sometimes as per people’s stories of some registrars making it difficult or impossible to transfer out unless you renew for at least a few years. I prefer to pay a regular low rate every time.

Perhaps a good idea for DI and every other website/forum dealing in domain news is to put the discounted price AND the regular renewal price in their articles. ??? Or would that turn people off those “specials”?

If you pre-fund your account via check or wire transfer, you can essentially bypass credit card processing fees and receive true at-cost pricing. For example, the current renewal price for a .COM domain is $10.44 when pre-funded via wire. That breaks down to:

    – $10.26 – the current wholesale registry fee
    – $0.18 – ICANN’s standard per-domain fee
    – $10.44 total – exactly what we charge

It’s worth noting that ICANN increased its fee to $0.20 as of July 1st, but we haven’t yet updated our pricing to reflect that change—so technically, our renewals are currently being offered below cost (but this will get updated soon.)

At NameBright, we’re not just offering a short-term deal—we’re working to reset expectations around what a registrar can offer in terms of service, innovation, and pricing. We also recognize that meaningful savings on .com domains can make a real difference for portfolio owners and new buyers alike.
