Every morning, I have a routine for finding domain names I want to bid on, backorder, or buy. I usually spend a couple of hours reviewing lists from tools like Dropping.pro and ExpiredDomains.net. The filters I have set eliminate a big chunk of domain names that are coming up for auction, and I manually review those that remain.
Many domain names that have commercial value and enough margin are quickly obvious. I think most domain investors identify those very quickly, and the number of backorders and bidders show this to be true. The best names obviously get the most auction interest.
I’ve always felt that there are names that slip through the cracks. Perhaps the CamelCasing on the lists threw me off or I simply missed a term or brand opportunity that I didn’t know about or was unfamiliar with.
To try and identify names that might slip through the cracks, I’ve been running some of these list names through ChatGPT with specific prompting to identify prospective domain names that are worth a closer look. I frequently modify my prompting – like mentioning that AI should ignore the camelcasing because I noticed the tool missed a domain name I think it should have highlighted for me due to improper camel casing on the list.
This is still a manual process for me. On one hand, doing this manually keeps me more involved and more likely to notice a domain name that gets missed again. On the other hand, it would be nice for this to be done in a completely automated fashion where the names are automatically fed into the tool with a perfect prompt, and the highlighted domain names are already in my inbox. I suspect that time will come at some point.
As AI tools continue to improve, I think there will be more integrations. I could see this being a good usecase for OpenClaw, but I am not ready to make that jump right now. I think using a tool like that can cause damage if it’s not used in a fully secure way.
As AI continues to evolve, I suspect there will be new domain name tools and domain name uses for it.

I’m already imagining the future where the majority of domainers are using processes like this and then new opportunities arise for those still doing it manually which the AI miss.
Sort of similar concept to where people are now reverting back to manual content creation, intentionally making mistakes and avoiding the em dash to stand out.
Will definitely be interesting to see it all unfold, because it’s definitely coming!
I think the combo – doing it manually and then via AI prompting is helpful.
I’ve caught sever names that I would have overlooked. It’s a good backstop.
Part of the enjoyment of this business is finding gems in large lists.
Oh absolutely – I use AI daily to speed up workflows as I just don’t have the time to scan lists manually daily. I’ve theorized part of the reason auctions have so many more participants and go for so much more at wholesale coinciding with the the adoption of AI being no coincidence. But AI has also allowed a lot more business opportunities to arise and lower barrier to entry than ever, so who knows.
All I know is this is the most interesting time to be in domains in my 16 years participating and it seems like there’s something new arising or happening at almost at a daily clip these days!
