Several weeks ago, Rick Schwartz shared that he would be a guest on an upcoming Planet Money podcast on NPR, where he chatted about domain names. The podcast was released yesterday, and it was one of the best podcasts I’ve heard that explains the value of domain names and the role domain investors play in the marketplace.
In addition to having Rick Schwartz as a guest, Snagged Founder Rob Schutz was also a guest. On a related note, I think Rob is able to offer some really good insights about domain name since he has considerable experience in the startup world, and works with numerous founders at various stages of corporate life. Rob was able to offer his insights as a domain broker while sharing some thoughts about the value domain names being to various startups.
What sparked the topic of discussion for the podcast was that one of the hosts had come across the Milk.com domain name, and that made him curious about domain names in general. I was surprised to hear that a $100k offer was seemingly a high offer that was recently received. The owner indicated it would likely take a 7 figure offer to sell but the target price is $10 million. Frankly, I’m surprised he hasn’t received a 7 figure offer yet. Perhaps this podcast will help get this domain name sold.
While the title of the podcast references Milk.com, the full title is probably a better summary of what was discussed – “[H]ow much are domain names actually worth?”
I think a startup founder who is considering a domain name acquisition would be well served by listening to the podcast. I don’t listen to many podcasts, but this was well worth my 20 minutes of time.
What a great story and podcast! It was very well done. Great job Rick and Rob!
Excellent…so good coverage on domains.
Now you just steered those low ballers to the podcast
Damn….my values of domains have skyrocketed…
