GoDaddy Making You Sign in to See What You Renewed (Updated)

This morning, I noticed something different in a domain name renewal email from GoDaddy. Instead of telling me exactly what domain names I renewed in the renewal receipt email, it simply said “.COM Domain Renewal” along with the term and price. You can see what this looks like below:

This is either a change that was made today or a data retrieval error.

I looked through my prior email receipts, and you can see the specific domain names that were renewed were listed in these email receipts for easy reference. This is how it has been for as long as I can recall:

By the time GoDaddy has processed my payment for a domain name renewal, it’s too late for me to do anything if I didn’t intend to renew a domain name. That aspect doesn’t matter to me. What does matter is when I search my email for a domain name, it’s comforting to quickly know when I last renewed it.

I hope this is just an error and not an attempt to bring customers back on-site to get this information that should be included on a receipt as it always has been.

Update: This was an error that has been fixed.

  1. If this is a glitch, it has not been fixed yet. I received another renewal receipt email this morning with the renewed domain names missing.

  2. Yes, this is not a good move. I prefer to search a renewal by name in my email like you and it comes right up. It also makes it easier to gather all emails on a single domain to figure out how much I’ve paid in renewals over the years.
