DomainNames.com: GoDaddy’s “Ultra Premium Domains” Marketplace

A couple of weeks ago, Afternic hinted that it would soon be launching a new domain name marketplace on the ultra generic DomainNames.com domain name. The launch was today, and the DomainNames.com platform marketplace was introduced for the first time:

At a quick glance, the marketplace appears to be stocked with some top quality inventory from the start. Domain names like Harmony.com, Natural.com, FL.com, Invitation.com, Encourage.com, Bankroll.com, and others are exceptional and must be in high demand. Each listing has its own logo, and there is an informational landing page with some suggested uses for each domain name.

Notably, along with the descriptive branding, GoDaddy chose the descriptive “Ultra Premium Domains” heading, in similar fashion to Atom.com’s Ultra Premium Marketplace (UPM).

From what I can see, the domain names listed for sale are unpriced on the new platform. Prospective buyers will need to fill out a form to receive the asking price. This is probably wise since few buyers will quickly jump to make a seven figure purchase, and having their experienced brokers work those leads is probably in the best interest of everyone. Interestingly, prospective buyers could search GoDaddy itself for some pricing information.

At least from the start, listing domain names for sale on the platform is not possible without being asked by GoDaddy / Afternic. My guess is that they will start with domain names they can see get the most inbound interest based on current listings. I doubt GoDaddy has been doing outbound to try and get domain names listed for sale on the new platform.

At the moment, I don’t see any of those listings using landing pages from DomainNames.com, but I suspect that will change. I understand GoDaddy has an exclusivity requirement for listings on the new platform. I also understand the commission structure is in-line with the Afternic commission structure.

I am not sure if GoDaddy needed to launch this “ultra premium” marketplace, but it’s nice to see the category defining domain name for the business of domain names being used to promote some of the best available domain names.

  1. I can do the same in 10 minutes with “pick your favorite ai creator”.

    No innovation required, just prompt:

“Create marketing copy and page layout for a new GoDaddy-owned domain marketplace called DomainNames.com. Model it after Atom’s Ultra Premium Marketplace: focus on exclusivity, curation, and high-value one-word .com domains.

Use aspirational, minimalist language that appeals to founders and investors. Include sections for featured domains, a “request invite” form, and “powered by GoDaddy” footer. Keep pricing inquiry-only.

Emphasize trust, simplicity, and premium positioning without showing transaction mechanics.”
