Domain Academy Offering Free “Domain Detox” Webinar

As my portfolio has become larger, I have been spending more time evaluating whether to renew domain names or let them expire and save money. A domain name that looked good to me in 2016 may not look so good today. Renewals for .com domain names may be just in the $10/year range, but there’s no sense in throwing good money after bad money.

When I am evaluating domain names, I look at several factors, some of which are hard numbers and others are gut instinct. Some of these factors include the following:

  • My acquisition cost (which I don’t write off when I buy).
  • Holding time.
  • How many bidders competed with me to buy it (if it was an auction win)
  • The number of inquiries or offers the domain name has received.
  • How many alternative TLDs or similar domain names are registered.
  • The popularity of the term.
  • Possibility of it selling in an expiry auction and for how much.

There’s no explicit way to determine whether I will keep a domain name or let it expire. A great deal of it is intuition and experience. This is good for me since I’ve been doing this for many years, but it can be more challenging for someone who may not

Joe Styler and Brook Barngrover from GoDaddy will be hosting a free Domain Academy webinar to help investors decide what domain names they may want to renew and others they may wish to let go. Brook and Joe will use some of the tools that are included in a Domain Academy subscription as well as outside tools. There will be also be information for people who do not have a Domain Academy membership.

There are two sessions for this webinar – January 24th at noon Pacific time and January 29th at noon Eastern time. It looks like you will need to sign up in advance to participate.
