Dan.com is Done

The time finally came. Dan.com has been completely shuttered by GoDaddy.

The innovative platform was acquired by GoDaddy in 2022. It was operated independently for a short period of time, and the platform was absorbed by GoDaddy and Afternic. Earlier this year, it was announced that Dan.com would close down over the Summer, and that time has come.

If you visit Dan.com now, you will be forwarded to Afternic with a Dan.com tracking url.

I am not sure when GoDaddy completely killed Dan.com, but I received a message from the platform on August 21st about a domain name I had previously listed there.

I doubt GoDaddy would be interested in selling the Dan.com domain name, but I suppose if someone wanted to start a totally unrelated business with the Dan / DAN branding, the company might consider a very serious offer. I have no idea what it would take to move the needle enough though.

It is not surprising that Dan.com is no longer operating in any real capacity, but the platform is now totally gone. RIP.
