Com Laude to Acquire MarkMonitor

Com Laude has built its reputation as a leading domain name management service and registrar for large corporations. The company competes against several other companies that offer similar services in the domain name industry, including MarkMonitor, CSC, and GoDaddy’s Brandsight.

This morning, Com Laude announced the acquisition of MarkMonitor. The company was owned by Newfold Digital, which had somewhat recently acquired the brand from Clarivate in 2022.

According to this morning’s press release, this “transformative transaction will create a leading global supplier of customer service, advanced tools and bespoke services for corporate domain customers, with an enterprise value of c. $450 million.” The press release also noted the two companies “will focus on developing a suite of new innovative AI-based services while expanding on the expert advice and flexible solutions they each currently provide to their customers.”

The press release doesn’t mention if the companies will continue to operate under their own individual brand names or if they will utilize a single brand name post-transaction. I suspect they will continue to operate under their own individual brands.

This is Com Laude’s second recent acquisition. Approximately one week ago, the company announced it acquired Fairwinds Partners, a corporate domain name consulting firm.

  1. All these latest acquisitions… name cheap etc etc

    The Big Question is
Will this be good for us ,domainers??
I don’t think so ..look at GD….they screw things up with poor services… products..

I recall CSC acquiring Netnames during 2016. Netnames eventually ceased to operate as a standalone entity and the Netnames brand was mostly retired from use during 2018. I anticipate similar sometime after this acquisition is finalised. If I were betting on which brand will ultimately be retired I would bet on it being the Com Laude one.
