WordPress 2.8 Bug? Missed Scheduled Posts

The scheduled post feature on my blog no longer seems to work, and all scheduled posts pass their post time with a “Missed Schedule” error message. I spoke with a couple of friends who have blog websites, and I mentioned this issue and that I recently upgraded to WordPress 2.8. Both of them said I should have waited for a couple weeks to upgrade to make sure there aren’t any bug. Well… too late for me.

I am wondering if anyone else who upgraded to WordPress 2.8 is experiencing the same issue as my blog. If you are, is there a way to fix this, or do I need to wait for another version with the bugs fixed?

Secondly, if you don’t have this issue – or if you haven’t upgraded to WordPress 2.8 yet, apparently it’s a good idea to wait until a couple of weeks after a release to upgrade.

I think it’s a feature that’s standard rather than a plugin, but for some reason, when I upgraded, something is causing this feature to not work.

  1. I’m always hesitant to upgrade to the latest version, even when they say it’s stable. I was using 2.65 for the longest time and just upgraded to 2.71 a few weeks ago. Very good advice to wait a bit before upgrading.

  2. Elliot,

Is EB run on WordPress? Do you develop other sites on WP?

    I have been using xsitepro.

    Any comparison or comments?

Big learning curve on wordpress? I looked at the codex and will have to sit and read it.

It is – I only use WP or Dreamweaver. I have a few smart developer friends, but I wanted to see if this was a known 2.8 issue before I have them dig in to this. I’ve never used Xsitepro, so I can’t give feedback.

From the tech side, I’ve learned how to make small changes, but I wouldn’t have a clue how to make big tech changes.

  3. I use both programs, xsitepro and wordpress for minisites. WordPress has more functions and
currently experimenting wordpress for blogs, minisites, and e-commerce sites with shopping carts with success.

Xsite is quicker to produce a minisite with, but wordpress has an easy to use blog function which is easy way to add fresh content to a site. Also wordpress is open source so you have alot of smart developers contributing new features and templates.

Like the smart theme developer from sixonefivedesign.com who has a great theme on themeforest.net called bluelight which can be made into a nice minisite with html or wordpress as shown by Elliot.

If you can use xsite it will take about the same time to figure out wordpress which I feel everyone on the net should be using and the best thing its free and so powerful at the same time.

  4. Thanks for the comment. I am pretty happy with xsitepro. The manual and instructional videos got me going so I think I’ll stick with it but if you know of a WP instructional video, send the link.

  5. This “missed schedule” error just began happening on my blog two days ago.

I am using WordPress 2.7.1 because I usually wait for the rush of fixes to be over before upgrading.

I’m hoping for a resolution soon.

  6. When I tried to log on to ours computer, a message saying “there are not sufficient resources to load” my account with the default something-or-other popped up. The box had a timer that was going to close the box, and then when it closed it would not log me on. I could not turn it off normally so I cut the power. When I turned it back on I logged on fine?
I read here PC Repair but couldnt make sense?

  7. Same problem here, I upgraded to 2.8.1 and I thought it will solve the problem but still it doesn’t, I’m also under a xeon dedicated server with 8GB Ram, running Linux CentOS.

  8. I have same issue with scheduled posts but think my problem is an issue with my host (Yahoo!) as it never seems to have worked, Yahoo of course say it is a WordPress problem.

    I am using 2.82

  9. It is a yahoo hosting issue.

I have a local server running apache and WP 2.8 works perfectly.

Once the wp code is uploaded to yahoo hosting the schedule function does not work. I believe it has to do with the redirects as these are handled by Yahoo. I noticed that the yahoo customizable permalink module interferes with other functionality as wells.

If you disable the customizable permalink module then the RSS feed fails.

There are other issues with Yahoo and word press. I am not sure what’s better; try to fix or simply move to another host.

  10. The missed schedule problem started for me last week. However, my rss feeds were going out on schedule which is why I didn’t catch the problem until today. Coincidentally, I was traveling in a different time zone last week.

In my research, I found a reference to the computer clock being out of sync with the server clock. Interesting. It took more research to understand why my computer was not syncing with an internet time server.

Who knows? Doncha’ just love these kinda buggy things?
