Why I Like Writing About Go Daddy

I like writing about Go Daddy, especially when the company is in the news. The new Jean Claude Van Damme advertising campaign  made the NY Times, Wall St. Journal, and many other news outlets. In addition, anyone watching the football game last Thursday saw the new tv spot. Because of the way the company has been marketed in the past, Go Daddy advertising changes make the news and are followed by the mainstream press in addition to advertising and industry publications.

When I write about the company as it’s being discussed by the public, it drives traffic to my blog, and oftentimes, it’s traffic that wouldn’t be introduced to my blog otherwise. After the commercial was aired, many people searched Google for things related to the new Go Daddy advertising campaign.  We aren’t talking about a few extra visits. We are talking about hundreds of additional visits a day, and sometimes more, depending on the scope of the news.

While some domain investors might not like reading about GoDaddy, especially if there is more than one article written in the span of a couple of days, there were many more new readers exposed to my blog because of the articles. I think people learning about domain investing is a good thing, and the more people who read my blog, the better. I also think people might search Google to learn about Go Daddy and domain names, and they’ll also read about investing in domain names. Again, that’s a good thing in my opinion.

Traffic is one of the most important things that brings value to advertisers. If it wasn’t for advertisers on my blog, I would be working on revenue generating aspects of my business.

I want to make it clear that Go Daddy has never paid me for advertising, affiliate marketing, or sponsored posts (they did make a donation to Ronald McDonald House for a  guest post  though). I once discussed an advertising opportunity with the company, but they requested a whole bunch of things (including but not limited to a media kit), and it didn’t work out. I still have 100+/- domain names registered with Go Daddy because I like their customer service, and my blog is hosted there (yes, I pay for all of this).

I don’t write about Godaddy because the company compensates me for it. I write about Godaddy because the company is domain names to many people, and that helps drive traffic to my blog and builds awareness about domain investing.

  1. makes sense Elliot and hey they are the industry leader. Have over 300 names with them and got an account rep too.

I plan to bring them more bizz too. They get the most traffic and prices are solid. Want all my names there too. Maybe next year.

The auction platform is solid. The premium domain sales are solid. Like to move names in there system.

    Now the flip side.

Call it business, call it whatever way u want but they will confuse the shit out for consumers and new .whatever. we won’t agree on this tactic and one week its going be .whatever, next week going be new thing. We seen this before and methods from Godadddy. Also placement of the extension. They will be paid lots of money. April fools day- dot com is bottom of options. Godadddy going be one hell of a money machine. Waiting for IPO to happen too.

  2. Elliot,

You need to move to Illinois. We in Illinois can say nice things about people and not assume they have been paid to say those things. You’ve built enough trust in our industry that I don’t feel you have to constantly tell us that you haven’t been paid to praise. I’ll put it out there and see if anyone else agrees with me. From this point on just tell us if you HAVE been paid to say something positive. Otherwise we’ll just assume you are telling us your opinion and you can save using 1/4 of the article to say that you haven’t been paid. 🙂

    • I agree with what you wrote, except for the part about moving to Illinois. Unfortunately, there are some people who seem to need to be reassured about this or they will write a jerky comment suggesting that I am paid to write posts about certain companies. On a post like this one, I figured it would be easier to preemptively write that paragraph so I didn’t have to deal with an inevitable comment.

This post was actually written a few days ago in response to a commenter who said I wrote a sponsored posts, which is untrue. I wanted to make sure people know why I write certain posts and address the accusation.

    • Elliot, you got that feminism trap in your body, your are too emotional, over-feeling, always worrying about what others are thinking about you…always trying to please everyone and not hurting their feeling…

Please, try to be like “me”, give them the middle finger or ask them to take a hike.

Sometimes it is okay to be an A-Hole.
Show them who is the boss and not let them walk all over you.
Show them your big Stick, Man!!

    • Since you want me to man up and be an A-hole, here goes:

I find you to be one of the most irritating blog commenters who contributes absolutely nothing to any discussion with the nonsense you write.

    • Shame on you Shane for using a special needs kid as an example to describe BullS.

I recently read about a special needs kid that actually requested all his birthday gifts to be donated to a nonprofit kitten foundation that takes in kittens and cats to prevent euthanasia. How many people would be selfless to do this?

This is one great kid and organization. I tip my hat to both because they deserve respect.

  3. BullyS

BullyS, you got that “jerk” trap in your feminine body, you are too mean, over-talking, never worrying about what others are thinking about you…always trying to hurt everyone and not helping.

    Please, take a hike.

  4. Never shy away from a counterpoint view.
I think he, or whomever, adds humor and sometimes does provide food for thought.
Humor, the spice of all things.
Take my life, it’s been a freakin joke so far!
Stay well and Keep on keeping on!

  5. I first came here through Google and I can’t remember the ‘keyword’ but I’ve observed that your site ranks well for most of the domain related keywords.
I just checked your site and it is at first page of Google search for the keyword ‘GoDaddy commercial.’ You’re right.

  6. The quicker you write popular content, the faster you get ranked for relevant keywords. I once wrote about a particular auto insurance company to discuss their mileage policy.

This post was written in 2009. I rank number #1 based on writing a casual post to express my concerns over this policy. If you get there first, you can rank higher. It depends on titles, content, images, tags and etc.
