How Whoisology Helps Me

When I receive an inquiry, either via email or Domain Name Sales landing page, I do some due diligence on the prospective buyer. Most of the time, I have a limited amount of information to use to do my due diligence. The one thing I almost always have is an accurate email address. This is usually enough to learn about the prospect.

The Domain Name Sales platform integrates quite a few tools that can be used to learn about a buyer. You can easily search Facebook, LinkedIn, or  Google to find a match for the email address. This can be useful in determining who the buyer is, but I like to use Whoisology to glean additional information about the prospective buyer.

When I receive an inquiry, I like to enter the email address into Whoisology to see if the prospect owns other domain names. This information can give me additional insight into why the prospect wants to buy my domain name. For instance, I may be able to see other, similar domain names that are owned by the prospect. Perhaps he or she owns a longer tail version of my domain name. I can also use the information from Whoisology to see if the prospect has a developed website or business on the domain name. This gives me additional information that I can use in my due diligence.

I think it would be helpful for DNS to integrate add-value tools like Whoisology and even DomainTools into the platform. It’s easy enough to take the info from my inquiries and enter that information by hand into other websites. It would be easier if it was all within the DNS platform. I also think others who aren’t as familiar with these tools will benefit from this as well.

Whether or not these tools are integrated into the DNS platform, and even if you don’t use the DNS platform, I think you can get some good insight when you use a tool like Whoisology for research.

  1. Elliot, good suggestion. I never thought in this angle. I definitely use this from now onwards.

I don’t know why DNS people are not releasing android application.

  2. I just entered a gmail address from someone requesting one of my domains and it shows No results for this email.

I think it was newly created just to cover up their track.
