Who Do You Want to Hear From?

One of the advantages of having the DomainInvesting.com brand instead of my personal blog brand is that I can easily allow expert contributors post articles offering their insight. I have plans to do this, and I have begun to compile a list of experts I believe could offer valuable information to people who read my blog. If I ask a contributors post articles, it will be related to domain investing and won’t be too tangential.

There are many areas of domain investing I don’t know much about. For instance, I don’t really know all that much about the ccTLD market, nor do I know much about ICANN governance. There are many experts out there who would be able to offer interesting anecdotes, news articles, and other information that would help all of us. Some of these people would be happy to contribute and share.

I am going to advise contributors that their articles shouldn’t be trying to sell something. I don’t want to read a sales pitch, and I assume you don’t want to read that either. Some people might not want to write a blog post that isn’t a sales pitch, and that’s fine because there are plenty of resources for them to do that.

Who do you think would make a great contributor to this website? I would assume that person shouldn’t be an active writer or blogger elsewhere because there wouldn’t be much of a reason for them to contribute here, too.

Over the next few weeks and months, I will reach out to potential contributors to gauge their interest in writing and sharing. Hopefully this will benefit all of us, and your suggestions will be helpful to me.

A few areas I am probably weak in would include:

  • domain monetization / parking
  • domain sales
  • various domain name topics
  • eCommerce
  • SEO
  • SEM
  • ccTLD
  • IDN
  • new gTLD
  • law
  • ICANN / Internet governance
  • registry operations
  • registrar operations
  • web development
  • hosting

If you have someone in mind, please let me know.

  1. It would be interesting to read interviews with corporate buyers of domain names to understand their mindset when it comes to what they are looking for and how they determine their offer prices.

  2. I don’t want read about any of those subjects. I really like this blog but this is going to become just another site if you start rattling off a bunch of useless information. I want to read about Domain Investing! Stick with what you are great at and become the go to spot for that info.

    • I think there are a ton of opportunities with domain investing and I want to learn about as much as I can.

My intent isn’t to have regular contributors posting about different topics. The plan would be to post things I think would be of interest every once in a while. It will all be related to domain investing opportunities and insight. I should have been more clear about that… it’s not going to be “filler” content or anything like that.

Anything that is posted here will be topics of interest to me, and I assume that most people will also have an interest because we probably share similar interests.

    • I agree 100% that if you have someone that is more knowledgeable than yourself by all means have them contribute if they are willing. If the info has to do with Domains I am all ears but I just don’t want to read about the subjects you listed below unless Domain Investing is intertwined some how in a very meaningful way. Since you have been writing this blog for so many years its probably tough coming up with new content. Revisit your posts from the first couple of years and you will come up with tons of new content. Visit iGoldrush.com to spark some new creative writing for the new guys too. We can all learn by remembering some of the basics.

  4. Elliot,

As someone very new to this, I am constantly looking for resources to learn. It isn’t just a matter of the basics but also of what keeps changing; what no longer works, what is working better etc.

I have nothing to add to the list that would be meaningful; and think all of the topics you have on your list as well as those that others will suggest will be add something new (even for old timers, I venture). So, while I understand it may be a matter of you being able to provide fresh content, I can safely say I will enjoy whatever you continue to offer, and thank you for the effort

  5. Hello Elliot,

We seriously doubt that a substantial End User would open up about the values of a superb .COM Address. They are more interested in tamping down .COM values. It would be nice to hear from long time domainers that have witnessed the changes over the lat 15 years though.

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger)

  6. Hi Elliot, glad to see you are opening up the space here. Being open minded, I’d like to read more about new gTLDs. I’m interested in knowing how Daniel Negari is going to do to enable his .xyz to dethrone .com and become the No. 1 extension within about 10 years. He’s a very ambitious young man. His track record, and the fact that he has registry experience and secured xyz.com before applying for .xyz earn my respect.

  7. Elliot,
Maybe once a week featuring a guest would be acceptable.I agree with Todd,I go to your site to read your concise to the point remarks, don’t spoil a good thing.
