What Other Currencies Should Escrow.com Consider Adding?

Escrow.com announced that the company would begin accepting Euros for payment beginning at the end of April. Knowing that the domain industry crosses borders, I am wondering what other currencies Escrow.com should consider adding to help with your business.

One issue of course is that it’s far easier to transact in a foreign currency if both parties use the same currency. For instance, it might be expensive for me to complete a deal in Yuan since I will then have to convert to US Dollars, costing me a few points on the transaction.

Feel free to share what other currency Escrow.com should consider adding. If you’re like me and are happy with US Dollars, there’s no need to cast a vote.

  1. Great to see euro option added but UK sterling is long overdue. Actually I asked Andee about £ transactions maybe 6 months back and got the impression it was on track for this year.

  2. GBP is a must, I have done lots of business out of the UK, AUD is emerging as well. Yuan, might be a good investment as well, as this is an extremely strong market, with lots of money flowing. INR is nothing something that I could care to much about, just to many low ball offers, and differing economies of scale, make deals very hard to complete.

  3. Agreed GBP option is overdue. INR would be easy for Indian domainers/buyers to fund escrow. why worry about scale? Buyers will anyway pay the dollar value but fund their escrow with the local currency.

    • With Canadian, and US trading so closely together, would be an interesting point, considering some of the biggest domain holders in the world are CDN.

  4. Hi Everyone,
Thank you for all the comments. Seems we are getting a lot of votes for GBP.
We offered this poll on our FB page a few months ago. I’ll be checking back for updates.

  5. great idea for a poll Elliot
I voted for £ as in UK and LONG overdue
UK Domainers are a big slice of domaining business outside U.S of course
I think canadian dollar has to be on poll
.ca is obviously closest to their heart but .com too
also many huge and legendary domainers from Canada
I think Aussie dollar too as never had any probs in getting paid in £ via paypal from them but nice to give option to them for escrow as Aussie busines owners are great to do business with, great crowd
and again many BIG Aussie domainers too

  6. everytime I see the above signature, I think of the ‘prestige worldwide’ sketch on step brothers lol

    investors? ……. could be you!
    lol

  7. With the advent of Bitcoin Escrow.com is no longer needed. With Bitcoin all you need is a “mediator”, not an Escrow agent. A 3-person transaction can be set up so that if 2 of the 3 agree it is completed. The buyer funds the transaction and it is verifiable by the seller. If everything goes through they both agree and the money is released. If there is a dispute they call in the mediator who decides who gets the funds. The mediator never gets full control of the funds and is only needed if there is a dispute. Why would I need escrow.com anymore?

    • That’s pretty much what an escrow is, HELP.org. A mediator in a contract, somebody that will decide who’s right and who’s wrong in the even of a dispute.

  8. We may not need currency transfer services in the future. If you look at the US Dollar from the point of view of Bitcoin the Dollar has effectively collapsed. One year ago a Bitcoin cost about $6 and now it is $46. That means the dollar has lost 87% of its value in one year as compared to Bitcoin. Even if you use services to convert Bitcoin into dollars when you need them (at a few percent fee) you are still way ahead.
