Vida.com Sells for $53,300 on NameJet

NameJet LogoThis past Friday, the Vida.com domain name sold on NameJet for $53,300. There were a total of 381 participants in the no reserve auction, and there were 431 bids placed.  I believe the winner may have been Media Options, but I won’t be able to confirm that until the name transfers upon payment to NameJet. Winning auctions over $5,000 require a wire transfer for payment.

The current Whois record  for the Vida.com domain name shows Register.com as the registrant, although I don’t know if the registrar owned the domain name prior to the auction or if it was owned by a customer whose information wasn’t made public. Based on a historical record from 2012, the registrar was also listed as registrant then as well, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the registrar is/was the owner, as I believe I’ve seen Register.com listed as registrant on privately owned domain names.

Vida.com is an excellent domain name and is an example of a name that can be used by many different businesses. In Spanish, Vida means “life,” and there are a number of spas, restaurants, and other types of business who use Vida as their brand name. Because it’s a descriptive keyword, the new owner should be able to do with it as he (or she) wishes.

While $50k+ is quite a bit of money for this domain name, I could see the potential for it to sell much more, assuming a domain investor acquired it. I would also assume the domain name sees considerable traffic, potentially making it a solid domain name to monetize.

  1. Thanks Elliot – we did buy vida.com and payment has already been sent to NameJet – just awaiting transfer.

Regardless of what vida.com previously sold for, we feel that it was a bargain at the price we bought it at. To be sure, we would never let a name like this go for any less than high six figures and potentially even more depending on how much traffic it ends up having and what we end up doing with it.

It’s more than likely we’ll be putting vida.com to work in the next 12 – 18 months in a development project we’ve been discussing for quite some time – we just never had the right name for it.

  2. Vida.com would be a nice brand for a health care related company. However, the fact the previous buyer held it for five years and after sales commission didn’t make much on the name (type-in probably made total return positive) says something about how many end users are scrambling to pay six figures for a brandable Spanish domain.

  3. CamShow.com sold for $52,000 at Godaddy

I own the .co CamShow.co, only to see the .com stll showing on Godaddy parking page since August.. Whats going on? hun..

  4. In Hindi language it means to ‘Leave.’ Its another form is ‘Vidaai’ which means “when the bride is formally sent to the groom’s household.” In India this domain can be used as an online marriage portal.

  5. There’s no doubt this domain is worth 7 figures or more. Just think about what an insurance company could do with it. I think it’s a mistake to focus on what the previous owner did or didn’t do with it since it was sold the previous time. I too would have bought it without hesitation if I had that type of funds available for it.
