A UDRP has been filed against the high value 3 letter TNP.com domain name. The UDRP was filed at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and it is WIPO case D2017-0669 .
TNP.com was created in May of 1995, making this domain name nearly 22 years old. The domain name appears to have had Whois privacy enabled at Uniregistry until recently. Perhaps it was removed as a result of the UDRP filing.
I visited TNP.com, and I was forwarded to a Namerific.com landing page where the domain name is listed for sale. The asking price for TNP.com is $500,000. As far as I am concerned, there is nothing wrong with selling valuable generic three letter domain names like this, and it is up to the domain name owner to set the asking price.
According to NameBio, TNP.com last publicly sold in 2012 for $45,000. Between 2012 – 2015, three letter .com domain names increased in value considerably due to Chinese domain name investments. Assuming the domain name changed hands between 2012 and today, it was likely for much more than $45,000. DomainIQ lists the value of TNP.com at $71,000, which I believe is probably on the lower end.
The complainant in this case is listed as TNP Consultants, a company I don’t recall hearing about before seeing the UDRP filing. I did a Google search, and it looks like the company already owns the domain name that matches its brand – TNPConsultants.com. There could be
I am not sure why this company believes it has rights to the generic and valuable TNP.com domain name. In fact, when I did a Google search for TNP (from Orlando), TNP Consultants’ website wasn’t even listed for me in the top 100 results, although its LinkedIn page was #98, just above The Nehemiah Project website and a stock analysis website covering Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. There seem to be many companies either named TNP or that actively use the TNP acronym. Five of the companies that would likely want to own TNP.com include:
- Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd. (TNP stock symbol on the New York Stock Exchange)
- Texas Nurse Practitioners (trade organization)
- The Networking People
- Terrain Navigator Pro
- True North Partners
This is the third UDRP filing in the last two weeks involving a high value three letter .com domain name. A UDRP was recently filed against ATC.com and a UDRP was filed against ALO.com. I will keep you posted when I see a decision published.

TNPConsultants.com clearly shows the company is French. The French generally possess an entitlement mentality even when they are not deserving. Thus, this UDRP is of no surprise.
