Sunday Updates & Thoughts

It’s been difficult to get work done during the day while watching the World Cup during the last couple of weeks. Many of the games have been thrilling, and it’s been enjoyable to watch the US Men’s National Team play. I’m excited for their second round game against Belgium on Tuesday. Speaking of Belgium, I could really use a Westy 12 if someone wants to send a 6 pack to me!

I am still raising funds for Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. With your help, I’ve raised a little over $1,500 towards my $5,000 goal, and there’s about one month left in my campaign. Can you help?

Here are some thoughts and updates:

  • Congratulations to the winners of the Domainers Choice Awards that were held yesterday in Dana Point, California. TheDomains.com has the full list of the award winners.
  • For some reason, I keep getting email solicitations from people trying to sell domain names currently in redemption status. Not exactly sure what the strategy with this is, but it’s annoying, especially because the domain names suck.
  • If you are interested in attending an ICANN meeting, the ICANN 51 meeting in Los Angeles might be a good opportunity. The meeting will be held October 12-16, 2014. More details can be found on the ICANN website.
  • Really interesting article on Time.com about Facebook using its news feed to see if “emotional states can be transmitted between people without face-to-face interaction.”
  • I really like the JetPack plugin for WordPress. I think I have it installed on all of my WP-based sites. The plugin has quite a few excellent features, and the in-depth stats offering is very helpful to me.
  • Big thank you to Tia Wood for her help with a couple of projects last week. Tia helped me re-launch EventPlanner.com and helped me with a couple of other ongoing projects.

  1. The US national team needs to pull up their socks if they expect to go further in the competition. They must play entertaining and attacking football like they did during the Confederation Cup and a couple of World Cups ago. Hope this comment doesn’t get deleted because two other domain bloggers have deleted my comments when they were highlighted for the real scams that they were. One of them doesn’t write that often now (his readership dropped by over 50%) and another is trying to get more information about me so that he can learn a thing or two. Unfortunately, I don’t have the time for losers. I prefer posts which connect or relate to the world of domaining and quite frankly 3 out of every 10 posts you write do not. Isn’t there a way you can take those posts off or post them on another blog. This is a site for domain investing, not crappy musings.

    • Which 3 of the last 10 posts I wrote have nothing to do with the world of domaining?

  2. You guys sure have a lot of time on your hands. I thought I already mentioned that the musings don’t connect to domain investing. Post it on another blog or make a category for them like a couple of others have. Let’s not take this further since I have to go watch a world cup match right now and cannot respond to these comments like some of you guys can.

    • One of the advantages of my business is that it gives me plenty of free time.

That said, you are welcome to not read articles that don’t appeal to you. I looked through the last 10 posts, and I disagree with your assessment.

    • Does “crappy” musings (typed right at the end of my comments) ring a bell??? You should read the comments well before replying to them. I really appreciate the amount of “free” knowledge that some of you share with us but sometimes it takes just that little bit of courage to own up to your mistakes and just move on. Apparently, so far, none of you bloggers have a clue about how to go about doing this. Free time is good and I understand that I can read up on whatever I want and whenever I want. That’s why I choose to read about domain investing and sales whenever I can. These kind of posts where the clear intention is to beg for donations is surely not connected to domain investing. Make a domain if you care about the cause so much and don’t insert the same thing in 3 posts out of the last 20. You can delete my comments. I know how it hurts when someone writes something against what you’ve written. But as I mentioned, it takes courage to own up to your flaws and mistakes. Now, if you’ll excuse me Mr. Elliot Silver, I have a match to watch.

  3. Delete my comments if you want. Just another few minutes of my time down the drain thanks to pathetic losers who can’t accept reality.

  4. Well, if your not deleting them, then I sure ain’t gonna waste my time reading and replying to them. Not on your blog or on my time. That said, I like the posts that connect with domain investing and sales. I truly appreciate them and I really love the fact that you won’t delete comments you disagree with. That’s the first best thing I’ve ever heard from a domain investor and blogger all this year.

  5. You really should take some of the inputs I’m giving you more constructively. That said, I don’t think you will. Next time, I read a title like “Sunday Musings, Sunday Updates, Monday Musings, I should just stay away from them since obviously the blogger has no clue how to word their post titles on a blog named “DOMAIN INVESTING”.

    • “You really should take some of the inputs I’m giving you more constructively”

But you are not giving constructive criticism. You are plain criticizing and rudely at that. For a ‘motivational trainer’ I thought you would know the difference.

Carry on, DI & Elliot. We love your posts and insight. Savio does not speak for all your blog readers.

  6. “Let’s not take this further since I have to go watch a world cup match right now and cannot respond to these comments like some of you guys can.” (says the guy who came back and posted 6 long paragraphs to complain about someone posting on THEIR website)

“This is a site for domain investing, not crappy musings.”

“You guys sure have a lot of time on your hands.”

“Just another few minutes of my time down the drain thanks to pathetic losers who can’t accept reality.”

“Savio is a practical teacher with an astute lateral thinking approach to writing and soft skills education. He is a guidance counselor who can train you to achieve success and inner joy in your life. A professional speaker with sound knowledge of popular world cultures and the headline news. He believes in spending more time on the better things in life and around the people (and things) he loves.”

Savio DSilva, I see you practice what you preach. Inspiring.

  7. I don’t follow soccer except during the world cup but have timed some late lunches to see portions of area games. This week’s Colombia vs. Brazil match should be interesting. Note that regardless of bone’s work oor profession we all have varied interests outside of work. Actually I have watched segments of this week’s USATF Championships – mostly the sprint events.

Tablets are not the same as laptops…

  8. Savio-you are such a BS motivator …my A+SS, go read “BullS”

Sir Elliot DomainInvesting.com is one the best blog.

Yes, USA needs to play aggressive attacking soccer.

  9. Promoting a singer who is a daughter of a domain investor is part of domain investing I guess. Seems like a few of you are collectively manipulating how readers of your blogs see the domain investing world. I have saved 5 posts clearly mentioning and promoting the songs of “Lana Del Ray” on this blog. It’s time that I use my years of experience in this business to reduce this nonsense and bull$hit that we have to deal with from domain blogs such as this. Readers may support you since most of them are clearly mirror images of the guys who run these blogs but the truth is always piercing through and shall be seen one fine day in the future. Action is being taken against another domain blogger as we speak and this post shall go down as a shining example of what this domaining blog is all about. It’s a shame (and rather unethical) that some readers still support such bloggers from writing about the industry. Yes, I watched the match and Netherlands won. I predicted their victory over 10 days ago (bigheadturtle.com) just like I predicted that .xyz domain names would be one of the most popular new domain extensions by the end of 2014.

  10. “Tia helped me re-launch EventPlanner.com and helped me with a couple of other ongoing projects”.

Doesn’t even work right. I tried my city, no results, clicked the link below:

“If you are an event planner and you would like to be listed on EventPlanner.com, please Sign Up Now.”

The Sign Up Now link just goes right back to the home page, instead of a page telling somebody how to sign up.

  11. It’s very unfortunate that a thread that helps to raise funds for cancer care for children and adults is clouded by an arrogant asshole named “Savio”

Today is not a work day, it’s a Sunday, Elliot should be allowed to post whatever he wants without you bitching about it, Have some respect and go back to your rat hole, taking your predictions with you.

  12. Elliot,

Write what you want, you own the site!

I checked EventPlanning.com and here are a couple things that I would suggest.

~ On the blog, lose the “dates” by the titles. This dates the site and it’s looking outdated now! No new posts since last year, none in 2014 etc.

~ © Copyright 2013, All Rights Reserved. (footer)

~ “checkout” sub-domain has no way back to the home page or really any tabs besides Contact. This may be on purpose but just wanted to note. Footer states 2012

~ Register Your Business, link (vendor submit)… opens in a new window, which just seems odd as nothing else does on the site. It also is a totally different registration than the reviews/register page.

Just a couple things I noticed.
