Sunday Thoughts & Updates: Anniversary Edition

Today marks 9 years since I started blogging about domain names. Crazy to think I’ve been doing this for so long. I am very thankful for the readers who visit regularly and of course for the advertisers who continue to support my writing efforts.

It’s also Father’s Day today, and I hope that those of you with kids are celebrating. I’m writing this before Father’s Day so I can spend the day with my kids (and my parents, too!).

Here are some domain industry thoughts and updates:

  • I am curious if anyone can correctly post the original url for my blog. I will tell you right now that ElliotsBlog.com was not the first url I used, and obviously it is not DomainInvesting.com either.
  • I launched Embrace.com earlier this week. Still have a bit of work to do, but I think it looks pretty solid (thanks, Tia).
  • Efty had some big news earlier this week. Michael Cyger, who is an investor in Efty, shared a video blog post about the company’s new offering.
  • Kevin Murphy shared a neat looking new gTLD website via Twitter the other day: Mosquito.Buzz. It’s a pest control service. I think the .Buzz domain name works well for the company. They also own MosquitoBuzz.com and forward that domain name to their .Buzz domain name.
  • I don’t recall seeing a follow up, but it looks like Lionel Messi was able to secure both Messi.com and LionelMessi.com. He had filed a UDRP for both names and both UDRPs are showing “Terminated” as the status. It looks like he is using Messi.com for his main fan website right now.
  • If you want to see what domain names are moving that might go under the radar, follow Jamie Zoch on Twitter. There are a ton of interesting sales every day, and Jamie tweets about some of them. There isn’t always enough info to write a full article, so Jamie’s Twitter feed may be the only place to learn about unreported domain name sales.

  1. Congrats Elliot,
We all appreciate your open forum format that allows discussing Marketing Strategy uses for Domains.Over the next few years the many other forms of Online Marketing will out perform the Google Ad system(SEM). We suggest to followers to adopt new ways to be found other than the obsolescing Google Ad System.

A questionable example of routing a .COMs traffic to be aimed at a new TLD site. Is a questionable and unneeded expense. Know one else but a Google Ad Advocate would waste time and effort and money, just to make a point like this. On top of the fact that this flawed Marketing Strategy matches up terribly on an international platform level. This is a new TLD promotion ploy that tries to appear the norm in the industries future. Questionable to think anybody else besides Google supporters would find economic benefit to such a staged action as this.?? Knowone in real life usually clicks on Unfamiliar new TLDs , unless heavily advertised at great expense in the Google SEM network.

Gratefully, Jeff Schneider (Contact Group) (Metal Tiger) (Former Rockefeller IBEC Marketing Analyst/Strategist) (Licensed CBOE Commodity Hedge Strategist) (Domain Master https://www.UseBiz.com

  2. Nine years since the introduction of residential fiber optics prompted customers using coaxial cable modems to switch, entering a breakthrough period for high speed internet.

Much appreciation for the fact DomainInvesting.com doesn’t cause antivirus to throw red flags, it’s a very clean site, making every return enjoyable.

Having your image wrapped on the #10 GoDaddy NASCAR is awesome.

  3. Sunday thought:

I’m calling it – the new gTLD phenomenon as it has been implemented is a failed experiment. It’s the same as or worse than the likes of .mobi, .biz, .US and even .info: nobody cares, nobody knows, and virtually nobody will ever care or know, though I still hold out some hope for .US. Yes, obviously there are a few exceptions to a literal interpretation of the use of superlative language.

While being a failed experiment already, nonetheless some people will still make some money, mainly in the supply side ongoing “money grab,” and a bit in the demand side arena which includes both “domain investors” and end users. And a few actual end-user websites will exist and do well. But overall it’s just more DNS dust in the wind.

And I actually like a few of them.

  4. Congrats on the milestone Elliott and thanks for the Efty shout out. Sint is the Dutch version of “Santa” so I will be watching (amd maybe putting in a bit) the auction for the domain.
