Sunday Thoughts, Updates, and a Domain Sales Question

We’re in the middle of a drought and a heatwave in Eastern Massachusetts. It’s 97 degrees today, and we just got back from the local pond. One kid is watching Sofia next to me and the other is napping. I figured I would share some domain industry thoughts and updates with you.

But first, a question I just posted on Twitter:

If you were buying a domain name in USD and the seller would like to be paid out in GBP, what service would you use? It looks like Escrow.com only takes USD and Euros. I would use Sedo, but I don’t want to pay a commission for a private sale. How would you handle this? Believe it or not, this is the first time I have faced this predicament.

Bill Hartzer just published an interesting article on his blog,  Are New gTLD Domain Name Owners Losing Traffic to Dot COM?

No surprise here, but John Berryhill won another UDRP defense last week in the case of BillyBobs.com. I am surprised companies still file UDRPs against domain names owned by Name Administration. By this point, it would be very difficult for a complainant to prove all three aspects of a UDRP in order to win due to the nature of the NA portfolio, and even if they happen to prevail in the UDRP, chances are good that they will be sued in a Cayman court.

I booked my trip to THE Domain Conference in Ft. Lauderdale next month. Will you be attending? See you there!

Here’s a new gTLD found in the wild: Letters.Foundation. The website was linked to  in an article about Warren Buffet’s sister who is giving away grants to deserving people.

Last week at this time, I was just finishing the Pan-Mass Challenge. For those who are wondering, I am fully recovered and ready to ride again!

Having a great domain name that is also used for email makes it so much easier for people to remember. I usually have to repeat my Gmail email address for people, but saying X at Embrace.com is so much easier for people to remember without asking “what was that again?”

  1. Hello Elliot,

” Bill Hartzer just published an interesting article on his blog, Are New gTLD Domain Name Owners Losing Traffic to Dot COM? ”

This article in our opinion, bypasses the Really Important message we have been educating people on. SEO leakage of stolen traffic in the Google Ad-Sense Marketing Traffic Stealing Maze crushes many Online businesses chances for survival.Sending Online Businesses Traffic meant for their sites economic benefit to their Competitors.

Most Google Ad-sense advertisers are drinking Google Kool-Aid and going with the mentality that other extensions than the Strategic .COM Profit Centers are just as good, as long as they use Google Ad-sense Marketing.

You will find that 99% of all Google Ad Marketing Agencies are Clueless about the superior Marketing Strategies that All .COM Profit Centers embody. They got it wrong thirty years ago and continue their flawed Marketing Strategies to this day.

They still don’t get that they lose their clients valuable Rustled Traffic within the Google Traffic Rustling Maze. Actually losing as much Traffic as they gain in the Google Ad System. Utterly Amazing to us that this is still being used by most Uneducated Online Advertising Agencies.

If their Online website owners knew the truth of the matter, they would be Furious.

There are two recipes for Online Business Failures:
    1. NOT owning a .COM Profit Center
    2. Using Google Adsense Marketing

  2. http://www.ecop.com uses Paypal, and Paypal automatically coverts USD to GBP. I have never tried an ecop.com sale using GBP, but I think I have received private payments using Paypal that were GBP to USD. I never specifically was looking for this though, so I am not sure, it is just something for you to look into.

  3. Hi Elliot,

I’m from the UK and I regularly buy and sell names. I use Escrow.com.

Although it doesn’t have a direct transfer for GBP, I just use their wire payments that transfer and convert into my bank account.

When I’m selling a domain, I simply do a GBP to USD currency conversion and slightly increase my USD amount to factor in the currency conversion, then setup the Escrow process accordingly.

I’m sure Sedo will do a direct GBP Escrow, but I’m not sure how long this will take to setup. I’ve used Ecop before too, which is fine. Although, I haven’t used them for a few years.

    Thanks

    David
